Senator Pearl Quinn has urged voters in St. Peter to reject the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) in the upcoming by-election, accusing the ruling party of decades of neglect and discrimination.

Addressing supporters at a United Progressive Party (UPP) rally in Parham, she described the January 14 vote as a chance to deliver “retribution” for what she called systemic abandonment of the constituency.

The senator was unsparing in her criticism, accusing Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the ALP of failing to respect or value the people of St. Peter. “They have shown you who they are, and you must believe them,” she said, referencing what she called a lack of investment in infrastructure, poor housing construction, and inadequate water supply.

Quinn highlighted accounts from residents about homes built by the National Housing Corporation that remain incomplete or riddled with issues years after construction.

“Across the constituency, overgrown bushes, horrendous roads, and inconsistent water supply tell the story of neglect,” she said, adding that recent road repairs in Painters appeared to be timed solely to coincide with the by-election.

Quinn also invoked the words of former MP Asot Michael, who has previously accused the ALP of deliberately sidelining St. Peter. She quoted his statement that the area was considered a “Labour stronghold” requiring no meaningful development. “If even Asot, with his wealth and influence, could not secure fair treatment for St. Peter, do you think it will be any different under the ALP’s candidate?” she asked.

The UPP senator urged voters not to be swayed by what she described as pre-election “trinkets” offered by the ALP, insisting that such gestures were temporary and insincere.

“Teach them a lesson,” she said. “Do not reward them with your vote. Let them feel your retribution for years of abandonment.”

Quinn endorsed George Wehner, the UPP candidate, as a “fearless fighter” and advocate for good governance, portraying him as the alternative to decades of what she called “disrespect and neglect.”

  1. Sis Pearl is so right. After decades of ALP support, Parham has not seen any development in 60 years. Bird people have the first capitol looking so rundown. It’s an embarrassment.

  2. De Antigua Labour Party treat St. Georges and St. Phillips North like an unfaithful man/woman who left their faithful spouse at home and go out prostituting with the resources that should have been spent in the home. Asot clearly stated that was the mentality of PM Browne and it’s clear it the same attitude in St. Phillips North. The roads in both Constituencies should be paved with golf; water running 24/7/365; fans in all the schools. It’s time the faithful Spouse rise up and reject the bad treatment. Rejecting the ALP is a good place to start, and St. Phillips North should follow their lead when the chance comes. Stop your chupid faithfulness that make you nothing but a laughing stock. Tell Gaston bring home de money; no money no love.

  3. Is any sensible person out there really questioning the fact that St. Peter’s have been neglected, neglected and neglected some more by successive labour party governments?

Asot Michael himself, who was in the bosom of labour, said it plain and clear for the world to hear.

If the majority of the electorate in St. Peter’s love bad-treatment, then vote for labour party.

If the majority of the electorate in St. Peter’s have any respect for themselves and their children, they will vote against Turner/gaston or stay home come by-election day.

  4. Pearl, let ne advise you that there is an art in the simple act of begging. Your obvious begging serves only to illuminate your desperation and nakedness. Why should you and your dumb a** UPP hopefuls assume that ordinary, working class country men and women are incapable of deciding for themselves to vote for whomsoever they want to represent them? Who the hell do you think you are? Will you take that same message to your pals in Fitches Creek or in Paynters? Damn forward! The electorate in St. Peter are far more intelligent and politically savvy than you are, and therefore think! On the brink of being blasted into oblivion, you brazenly dare to pour scorn on the Paynters Housing Project! Big mistake! Instead, use your energy to Pinocchio nose to evaluate you own party’s in erecting homes in Paynters and in Follies. Pearl, you are good at exhibiting raucous, virago style, fishmonger conduct when addressing matters of which you have so little knowledge. Your party’s elevating you to prominence at the expense of the decent, knowledgeable Hon. Shawn Nicholas was an error of colossal proportions, as you will soon discover!
