A clergyman has been sentenced to just over six years in prison for a series of fraud offences committed over nearly two years.
Gavin Otto was jailed for 6 years, 1 month and 24 days by Justice Ann Marie Smith after admitting all 19 charges against him.
The offences — committed between February 2021 and October 2022 — included 13 counts of obtaining money by false pretences and six counts of fraudulent conversion.
Prosecutors said Otto took payments for construction materials and shipping containers that were never delivered, and routinely issued cheques without sufficient funds.
Several service stations also cashed cheques from his personal account, all of which later bounced.
Police arrested Otto in October 2022 after he attempted to escape over a fence during a search of his home. Officers recovered receipts and cheque stubs linked to the offences.

In GANGSTERS PARADISE even Pastors are crooks they will not be outdone by the petty thieves and politicians all are mixed up in the same pepperpot
He tried to jump the fence LOL
May he learn the lesson and learn from his mistakes. At least he didn’t waste the court’s time
DON’T DROP THE SOAP!!!
This should be a wake up call for all leaders, not just pastors but I must say there are other crimes committed in churches that only the court of God will judge. Such like manipulation, partiality, greed, jealousy, hatred, idolizing people and things, the sins of the heart.
Others like seeing a brother or sister being treated unfairly but not saying anything about it because you enjoying the sweet of the company of the wrong doers.
God will expose who don’t turn away and repent. He wants us to be Christ like.
God help us all
As a pastor who preaches about thou shall not steal six years
Our court system is really messed up.
There is no set standard nor policy guiding the court.
It seems like financial might controls what happens and what sentence is imposed.
Recently a man was given time to compensate his victim over $300,000.00
Today in a similar case a pastor is being sentenced to six years.
Where is the set precedence being followed.
It seems like the judge imposes sentence based on which side of the bed she wakes up or she listens to too much local radio programming.
I most certainly don’t believe that puine judges should be practicing in Antigua.
Our court system is too busy for judges to begin their bench life.
Please make it make sense tgst a man is given time to repay $300k while another is put away for six years for less.
How can a pastor be prosecuted for fraud?
I mean, they preach the concept of a God, which you must except on “faith”. That is to say , believe my construct of the nature of life.
Depending on the church, they argue that their God is the true God, so surely all other churches must be fraudulent.
I’m sure there’s people who disagree with my thoughts, but just think about this, there are many many religions in this world, if you believe in one, then you reject the rest.So you don’t believe in hundreds, if not thousands of belief systems.
I just don’t believe in one more than you.
I ju
The moral of the story here, is to stop trying to live high and mighty of the backs of others, go out and find your own, even for a pastor.
Many in the Government are doing the same..their monthly salary cannot sustain their extravagant lifestyle, so they go and tief. Many of them take from the job everyday, even down to toilet paper.
Too many with long eyes in government, and it starts at the top.
Stop the robbery of the poor. The judge is correct, he should have gotten 20 years, because he’s a serial fraudster. This wasn’t a one time thing. Totally different to a one off fraud deal.
Pastors, Police officers, and teachers whlentrusted with moral leadership, public safety, and education are failing to uphold the values we rely on them to embody. The very pillars meant to shape society in the right direction are, in some cases, contributing to the problems they should be solving. Pastors having sex with members of their congregation, authorities committing fraud, police officers engaging in crimes, and teachers involved in inappropriate relationships with students or colleagues sometimes it feels like every pillar of society is cracking. What a world we live in.
We live in a time where the very people we rely on for moral guidance, safety, and education are too often caught in scandals, pastors entangled in sexual misconduct and fraud, police officers violating the laws they swore to uphold, and teachers crossing boundaries with students or their colleagues. Each incident chips away at the trust that society depends on. It’s a sobering reminder of how deeply flawed our world can be, and how important accountability and integrity are for those in positions of influence.
Hi Gavin, all is not lost. Yes you have a mistake and you are suffering the consequences just as David did. But David was always quick to repent. My son he is a great example to follow. Did not God say that David was a man after his own heart.
Remain strong in your faith. Cry.out to God. Do not let all all your years of serving God go in vain let this your testing become a testimony. Be strong my son, God has not given up on you. This is not the end of your story. God will use a broken vessel to draw men to him.
We all are like sheep have gone astray! However, stealing like this is at a different level. This was planned and well orchestrated, the funny thing is there is no way out and it will catch up with you . Since it seems like you were stealing from one person to repay another.
Secondly with all these brilliant ideas in your head, you could have easily done this legitimately. Like buying and selling over containers and importing steel etc or simply getting a salesman job at a leading hardware.
Worst yet you don’t have a single dime for all this crime/ stealing you committed. You don’t own a car, a house, a piece of land. You have absolutely nothing to show.
Life is short pastor, hope you survive this and can find a way to pull yourself around. You might have to get a job with one of the All Saints Farmers and hope you stay honest going forward.
One thing for sure- men might look down on you for the rest of your life. However, God is willing to forgive and restore you as a son and later to everlasting glory. Thank God you have your mother house to put a roof over your head, when you are released from prison.
Stop pretending to know everything, stop putting on a show and humble yourself.
Just like you were brought to justice, so are those that steal our tax dollars or allegedly stole millions should be investigated. They just did not steal from a few people like you did. They stole from the entire nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Some will still be getting their big fat pension checks after defrauding us millions. Heard the comptroller is now looking about his. Democracy is justice and transparency. No transparent investigation and still continue to call people names is scandalous and disgusting.
Only? If it were my son he would get 25. You fraid the pastor?
Victims finally see some justice after being deceived by someone they trusted.
Desperate times we live in
Pastor infront his name is a disgrace. And then we wonder why people run from the church. Here’s the main reason for such cause! Leaders like Gavin. Lie and deceitful:)
