Antigua and Barbuda’s Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is warning parents to stop using Little Remedies® Honey Cough Syrup, which has been recalled due to bacterial contamination.

The manufacturer, Medtech Products Inc., pulled five batches after detecting Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that can cause serious illness or even death in severe cases. The affected syrup has been on shelves since December 2022.

Parents should check for UPC code 7-56184-10737-9 on 4 FL OZ amber bottles. The recalled batches are 0039, 0545, 0640, 0450, and 1198, with expiry dates from November 2025 to December 2026.

Symptoms of infection include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhoea, sometimes appearing within hours of use. Health officials urge parents whose children show symptoms to seek immediate medical care.

Consumers are advised to return the syrup to the place of purchase for a full refund and not to use it under any circumstances.

The recall applies only to this specific cough syrup and does not affect other Little Remedies® products.

For further information, consumers can contact the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division at 462-4347 or [email protected].

  1. Grateful that my child didn’t react badly, but still so angry that this was even possible. What are our import screening procedures like?

  2. Terrifying to think this was sitting on shelves since 2022! Thank you to Consumer Affairs for catching it, but how did it get here in the first place?
