End Bullying

The Caribbean Council of National Parent-Teacher Associations (CCNPTA) is urging governments, schools, and parents across the region to take collective action to eliminate bullying, describing it as a “widespread social virus” threatening children’s safety and well-being.

Council President Everton Hannam commended Caribbean governments for their efforts to tackle bullying through national campaigns, policy reforms, and education initiatives, but said real change requires broad collaboration among parents, teachers, communities, and the media.

“Bullying is not a phase—it is a serious social issue,” Hannam said. “Every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued. Together, we can end this scourge and build a Caribbean rooted in kindness and mutual respect.”

He defined bullying as repeated, intentional, and harmful behavior where individuals or groups use their power to hurt others—whether in schools or online. Hannam encouraged parents to play an active role by recognizing warning signs, staying engaged, and working closely with schools to foster respect and empathy among children.

The CCNPTA reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with regional governments and education stakeholders to create safer, more inclusive learning environments across the Caribbean.
