While thousands of Antiguans and Barbudans were sleeping, dozens of employees from the National Solid Waste Management Authority were in the country’s capital of St Johns attacking the major streets and alleys in the city.
For five hours, 12am to 5am, on Monday December 22nd, General Manager, Mrs Indira James Henry and her crew of men and women, cut grass, trimmed and pruned branches, sweep and flushed gutters as well removing sludge and garbage.
In one instance, one of the heavy duty trucks on hand was seen pumping thick mud out of one of the blocked up drainage holes…
The Solid Waste team were later joined by their counterparts from the Central Board of Health at 4am, as they were on hand to spray the gutters, lay white lime as well as set out baits in a bid to eradicate rodents.
A similar event will be at the same time, early Tuesday morning…..
