Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has renewed calls for Attorney General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin to publicly address the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Bolans resident Kahleel Simon.
Delivering his 2026 Budget rebuttal, Pringle said the community was “hurting” and that Simon’s family “deserve answers” on the progress of the police investigation.
“The family want to know what is the update, Mr AG, from the police on the shooting of Kahleel Simon,” he told Parliament.
“We have seen, like the Vehicle Gate situation, when the government investigates, nothing happens.
When the police investigate themselves, justice is rarely served. The silence from the Ministry of National Security is deafening.”
Pringle added that the incident had “shaken the nation”, accusing the government of offering “nothing but sweet-sounding things” to a community demanding accountability.
Simon’s relatives have staged repeated protests outside Police Headquarters, calling for the removal of the officer who fired the fatal shot and for a swift, transparent inquiry.
Pringle said senior officials must break their silence and reassure the public that justice will be pursued without delay.

It was God’s will for him to die. Otherwise he would have been alive.
A cop approached you and this innocent, clean, not involve in anything bad decided to run, now in this world of crime you run from any cop, it’s gonna be a chase with weapon drawn, now any innocent individual in a case like this would’ve immediately stop running and surrendered with hands in the air, I want to believe this didn’t happened. In the end bullets was discharged and discharging bullets on the run could go either way, in this case death. Why didn’t he just put his hands in the air, or drop to the ground, why did he run in the first place? I know we in these parts have no respect for police and even with a strap on their side, we still believe we are badder than them, so while most in big countries show some fear of these armed uniforms, we in Wadadli stand fearless.
Not on many occasions do I agree with what Pringle says. But in this instance I have to. The police is silent on this issue
A tough call-out from Pringle here. The community will want clear answers, and quickly. Accountability can’t drag when a young life has been lost.
We still waiting for Manie James and the rest of the people who are dead and need justice
He was just 18… that could have been any of us. We’re scared, and nobody is saying what really happened. We need the truth.
