Opposition Calls for Public Mobilisation After Police Summon Party Leader

Supporters of the opposition United Progressive Party are being urged to mobilise publicly after police issued a summons to Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle in connection with an investigation into the burning of Antigua Public Utilities Authority materials at Old Road.

In a statement circulated to supporters, the party accused the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda of acting under political influence, alleging that Police Commissioner had complied with instructions from Prime Minister Gaston Browne by summoning Pringle for questioning.

The opposition said the matter has “nothing to do” with Pringle and insisted there is no evidence linking him to the incident. The statement characterised the summons as an act of political persecution and accused the government of victimising its critics.

Calling the planned mobilisation “Freedom Day,” party supporters were urged to turn out in large numbers to protest what they described as the politicisation of the police force and to demand an end to what they claim is intimidation of opposition figures.

Police have not publicly commented on the opposition’s allegations. Authorities have previously maintained that summonses issued during investigations do not amount to arrests and are a routine part of the investigative process.

The fire at Old Road, which destroyed APUA materials linked to ongoing works, remains under investigation. No charges have been announced.

  1. During a series of aggravated robberies GB told known gang members to get rid of their hot firearms. The police is yet to question him for perversion of justice.

Pringle let the police arrest you. They would have to tell a magistrate what evidence they have to get the warrant.

  2. What else y’all expect from GB?
When you stand with dictators like Maduro, who have persecuted and killed many of his opposition for simple calling him out, then the same examples will be followed here in Antigua with this fickle vindictive fool we have as PM.
Look what happened to everyone that opposed him. Look what happened to Asot, look how he came after Viv, look how he continuously attacks Lovell, he came after Shuggy with the same vigor and lost(lucky for Shuggy), look how he attacks any woman that opposed him, with his jackassish attitude, and now he got an opening to come after Pringle.

Everyone knows that it’s not in the character of Pringle to do what is alledged here. Many even called Pringle way too soft for this type of gutter politics in Antigua, and all of a sudden the man turned crazy and start committing crimes?

This is just ridiculous and obviously politically motivated. The profile doesn’t fit. This is not the type of thing that fits the MO of Pringle.
I’m a big Shuggy fan, everyone knows that, and this is no where tied to Pringle.

Stop using the police for your own agender GB..why didn’t you use them to go investigate the millions that were stolen in the car thief?

Enough is enough with this man who has clearly lost his marble’s. He say that he is a ” Rasta” from youth..well “Rasta” don’t get caught up in no bangarang, you hypocrite.lol.

More misguided tantrums to come with this emotional leader we have here in Antigua.
No spine to stand up to Trump, but he have strength to go after everyone else. What a punk!
