The recent fallout within the United Progressive Party (UPP) can no longer be ignored. While efforts were made to foster unity and rebuild fractured relationships during the party retreat, the unexpected and dramatic walkout by the party’s chairman has thrown the party into deeper turmoil.
This action at the retreat has served as a trigger for candidates and senior party members to leave the institution.
This act, witnessed by several senior members and candidates, symbolizes the dysfunction that threatens to dismantle the UPP from the inside out.
It was coupled with the Chairman’s statement about individuals licking their wounds from the convention.
The retreat was not a battlefield—it was meant to be a sanctuary for reflection, growth, and healing.
Yet, rather than contributing to the spirit of unity, the chairman chose a path of isolation and discord, embarrassing the candidates and Richard Lewis faction that challenged her.
In conversations with those present, it is clear that the environment was respectful and focused on reconciliation.
According to eyewitnesses, only Brother Paul prayed, and Harold Lovell spoke before the infamous walkout, which has been downplayed until now.
Lovell’s message was sincere, offering praise for the chairman’s communication abilities, education, and past contributions.
But it also included a call for responsibility—a plea for the chairman to step into a role of unity and leadership.
That moment, it seems, was the tipping point. Instead of embracing the challenge, the chairman walked out—no confrontation, no conversation—just an exit. No body talked her down; that’s a blatant lie.
What followed was a public attempt to convolute the reasons behind the walkout.
Blending past experiences at the Board of Education with vague claims of becoming a “flawed person since the convention” only muddied the waters.
This spin-doctoring might fool die-hard supporters or curry favor with the Leader of the Opposition, but for those committed to transparency and progress, “nutten tall go so.”
The truth is clear: the chairman left because accountability was asked of her by the former Political Leader. Harold Lovell also needs to break his silence and speak honestly about the retreat and what it did to the candidates—who all exhibited great respect for D. Gisele Isaac.
Let’s be honest—degrees in communication and eloquent speeches can’t mask dishonesty forever. Yes, we salute academic achievements, including a degree in journalism and English from St. John’s University. But theory means nothing when practice contradicts principles.
Repeatedly, the chairman has attempted to appear intellectually and strategically superior, presenting twisted narratives to protect her image rather than uphold the integrity of the party.
This strategy of deflection and manipulation must end. Grassroots members, candidates, and senior figures within the UPP deserve honesty and leadership—not ego and escapism.
If the party fails to acknowledge and confront the negative fallout from this retreat, the very future of the UPP is at risk.
Let this be a call to action: no more silence. No more cover-ups. The UPP must choose transparency, accountability, and unity—or it will suffer a disastrous demise at the hands of hypocrisy.

Is it cynicism when they keep referring to this lady as chairman when they should be using the pronoun chairperson to describe her? and like Gaston call himself tap dawg this intelligent lady seems to like the name chairman, maybe she think it’s an intimidating terms to control the members she administrate or else she would have spoken out on the media using such caricature description to describe her. I am always saying ” no! Chairperson!” It’s up to her.
I am recommending that an interim chairman be appointed by the central executive of our party. This will allow for some return to normalcy and stability.
Dem man can’t hold one head? Politics turn real messy, oui.
If leadership can’t stay united, how they expect to run a whole country?
So wah really goin’ on in UPP? Dem need to get dem house in order fast.
I used to support UPP, but this kinda confusion turning me off.
Ego mash up more party dan opposition ever could.
When the chairman moving like he running tings solo, what yuh expect?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!
Knowing the principals of this portal i am certain those opinions are paid political adds by none other than the labour party.
Yhoygh they are jn the drivers seat that fear a resurgence should the leadership step aside and let progressive minds take over.
It is no coincidence that none of those opinions have a writer.
They anonymously print on this portal.
I find it laughable that having planted the leader that they wanted the ALP now wants to add salt to the wounds and dictate the evey actions in the UPP.
Interestingly the ALP according to this portal is a marriage made in heaven.
Their infighting is done under or inside a tank like structure and the cries are stifled.
No I e heard outside if the party and the conclusion is that all is well within the party.
No. No. No.
That’s not true.
The infighting in the labour party us deadly.
It leaves permanent scars.
What the members have skillfully done is to keep their pain muzzled waiting for their day of revenge.
All are hoping to inflict mortal woulds on be other for the pain that thay have masked over years.
Having said that it makes me be thankful that I never attended any school.
Speaking with my doctor friend he drive one thing into me.
Never fight to hold on to a position that was given to you when the majority of those you seek to serve do not want you in that position.
I also listened to someone who said, “A FOOL DOES NOT KNOW NOR BELIEVE THAT HE/SHE IS A FOOL”.
His/her fooly is compounded when he/she is being manipulated by someone who believes and knows that he/she is more educationally blessed.
If you cannot analytically think and reason you are open to be used by anyone who realizes that.
Single Pringle would have saved himself a long time ago if he had the sense and sensibility to realuse that he is in his position not by his own doing.
He is in the leadership of the UPP not because he deserves it.
He is in the leadership of the UPP not be cause he is competent.
He is in the position because he can be someone’s toy.
Little black boy, open up your eyes.
You are too black to be toilet paper.
Your mission of destroying the UPP is achieved.
Now step aside and allowing it to be rebuilt.
Your legacy of having destroyed a party which was one act away from gaining governance is etched in stones each as big as tge multi purpose center.
Well done!!!!!!!!!!
This opinion piece is laughable to say the least.
Up to now you all still talking about ‘the retreat’? Really?
I hope that Gisel will remain involved after the next convention. SHE, WITHOUT A DOUBT, is holding the party together.
The ‘gang’ that is hungry for power and money, with some of them not paying their bills, will be the death of the U.P.P.
Some in the U.P.P. thought that ‘supposed popular persons’ will help the party. Well, time has exposed all for the world to see (lol).
So let the labour party plants and spin doctors continue their writings. They know that their reign in governance will continue if the ‘gang on incompetent ones’ ever gain leadership of the U.P.P.
@Ninkii
I am still a supporter but I am very turned off with the goings on in the organization, they have got to come together like yesterday else they are done for, they have got to think about their supporters and stop the selfishness, Antigua’s future is at stake
