National Teachers’ Day – Tuesday, May 6, 2025
A Day of Reflection, Not Just Celebration
National Teachers’ Day was meant to be a time when we pause as a nation to honor and celebrate those entrusted with one of the greatest responsibilities—educating our children.
It is a day to express gratitude to the men and women who stand at the front of classrooms, shaping not only minds but futures. But this year, I find myself not only reflecting—but questioning.
Since Friday, May 2nd, 2025, teachers across the nation have been engaged in a sit-in, leaving classrooms empty and children without the guidance, supervision, and structure they so desperately need.
And so I ask: What exactly are we honoring for teachers day?
Who are we truly celebrating when the very children teachers are meant to serve have been left behind—again?
There was once a time when teaching was seen as a divine calling. Teachers were revered not just for the knowledge they shared, but for the passion that drove them.
They taught with purpose, with conviction, and with love.
They walked into classrooms not for a paycheck, but because they believed—believed that they could shape a mind, uplift a soul, and transform a life.
They understood that within every child was a spark waiting to be lit, a story waiting to unfold.
Today, that sacred flame seems to flicker. Too often, we see the shift in focus—from nurturing minds to negotiating contracts. From purpose to presence.
From passion to pay. And while no one denies that teachers deserve fair treatment, better working conditions, and competitive compensation—they are human too, with real needs and valid struggles—we cannot forget the higher calling.
The impact. The legacy.
To the teachers who still show up with heart, who still see each student as a possibility and not a problem, thank you.
You are the true heroes. You are the ones who deserve every flower, every tribute, and every word of thanks today.
But to those who may have become disheartened, disconnected, or distracted—I urge you, remember your first love. Reconnect with your why.
Because our children are not just names on a roll call or bodies in a room. They are the future. And right now, they are watching. Waiting. Needing you.
Let today not just be about celebration—but about reflection, accountability, and a renewed commitment to the reason you became a teacher in the first place: to change lives.

Absolutely agree—teachers deserve more than cake and speeches once a year. They already have to struggle for an allowances
Teachers are the backbone of society. They need respect every day, not just a headline once a year.
Yes, it was a day to celebrate, but also to push for reforms we’ve been waiting years for.
Where was the Ministry’s statement on improving teacher benefits? Haven’t seen anything concrete.
