OPEN LETTER: To The St. Peter’s Electorate

10
Wehner

Dear Fellow Constituents of St. Peter,

As we prepare to head to the polls on January 14th for the crucial bye-election following the untimely passing of the late Honourable Asot Michael, I feel compelled to reach out to you all with an urgent challenge.

This election is not just another routine decision; it is a moment that calls for us to set aside party allegiance and emotions, and to vote — for once — for ourselves. We must vote in our own best interest, prioritizing the issues that profoundly impact our lives and our community.

Let us take a moment to reflect on our past experiences. After decades of loyalty, how many of us can say we are genuinely excited to vote, especially after enduring a relentless onslaught of failed promises from the Antigua Labour Party?

Our constituency has long been perceived as a safe seat for Labour, yet it remains one of the most neglected regions in our nation. Aside from the invaluable support directly from the late Minister Michael, how many of us have truly seen our lives improve?

It is time to ask ourselves: “Are we ready to say enough is enough?” This time around, it is not about empty promises. It is about voting for St. Peter, for Parham, for Fitches Creek, for Paynter’s, and for Pares Villages. We need to center our focus on prominent issues, and one issue that demands our attention is our long-overdue back pay.

How many of us will go to the polls on January 14th without having received the promised additional month’s salary, which should have been disbursed by December 31st, 2024? Why are we met with constant runaround from the treasury? Why do some receive their payments while others are left in the dark?

This is more than a financial oversight; it is a matter of respect and integrity. “**No back pay, no vote**” should resonate loudly among us. We must demand accountability and ensure that we receive what is rightfully ours before we lend our support to any candidate.

Are we truly more concerned about campaign blitzes or the number of attendees at a UPP rally than ensuring we get the remuneration we so desperately need? The government must feel the weight of our plight and respond immediately to resolve all outstanding debts owed to us.

In honour of the late Asot Michael, let us consider the courageous stand he took. He dedicated himself to the Labour Party, investing his resources and time, and yet when he faced the harsh realities of neglect, he made the bold choice to stand as an independent candidate. His historic victory serves as a powerful reminder that change is indeed possible.

It is time for us to follow his lead — to make a telling choice and stand against the prevailing norm. We may be expected to vote one way, but we hold the power to choose differently. Let this bye-election be your opportunity to assert that we will no longer accept neglect or broken promises.

In closing, I urge you to think deeply about your vote. This is not merely about a political party; it is about our lives, our families, and our future. Let us make a choice that will reverberate through our communities for years to come. Remember: “No Back Pay, No Vote!”

Sincerely, Serious Parhamite

  1. I Have thought Long and Hard, and have made a conscious decision. I have decided to vote for RAWDON TURNER. in honor of Asot Michael. Thank you Parhamite for strengthening my resolve.

  2. Wehner, just go back to your job as a cabbie driver! This is more in keeping with your qualifications. Do you expect a sensible electorate to send you to the Lower House to join the likes of Soggy, Serpent, and the jackass Pringle to continue to drain the Treasury just to accommodate your tomfoolery??!! Chupz.

  3. VERNONS, how can you vote for Rawdon Turner in honor of Asot Michael? Rawdon was present when GASTON threatened to punch Asot in the face. Did he call out Gaston and tell him that was not the right behavior, language, tone or message? No. Turner stood silent in support of Gaston. What has the Labour party which Asot was a member of until Gaston unilaterally kicked him out done for that constituency? What can the community claim to have benefitted from the representation of Asot? Nothing. Not while he was a member of the ALP administration nor as an independent representative. Asot was a great humanitarian. However, sadly he was the poorest example of a representative. After Asot was threatened by Gaston in the presence and hearing of Rawdon, Asot went on to win the constituency as an independent candidate. Rawdon forget that he contested the elections on a labour ticket. He has not moved a stone for the betterment of the consistency since the elections. He has not been an advocate for better in the constituency. He has supported Gaston’s instructions that the constituencies who rejected his party and message should fall in at the back of the line. A vote for Turner is a vote for Gaston who has proven to be a failure. He speaks boldly of record revenue collection. Can anyone from Parham constituency say that they are feeling this in their pocket or in the constituency? No. Gaston made it clear that constituencies who rejected him should stand at the back of the line. ASOT was elected as an independent candidate. Parham fell further at the back of the line. Did you hear Rawdon advocating for betterment of the constituency while Asot was alive? NO. So please tell me on what basis is a vote for Rawdon honoring Asot? On the contrary it is a vote to continue taking th
is constituency for granted. Don’t be fooled by the road works talking place in the constituency. Go to Bolans and that should be a wake up call. More than a
year after the by-election and not a stroke of work has taken place from the day before the by-election. Parham will be no different. I beg you. Think, think, think!!! Do not let your intelligence be disrespected. You deserve better. You family deserve better. Your constituency deserves better. Your island deserves better. REJECT TURNER AND THE ANTIGUA LABOUR PARTY!!!!!!°

  4. @Straight Shooter – That’s not only an earful, but a mouthful. Anyways UPP sarl til. At least Turner will be able to do something, but what will Wehner be able to do. If UPP doesn’t take office at the next election, what will happen to St. Peter’s? Will Wehner be able to do anything? Enteways! Bye!
