Two Candidates Officially Nominated for St. Peter By-Election

The St. Peter by-election, scheduled for January 14, 2025, will feature two officially nominated candidates after Nomination Day on December 31, 2024.

The election follows the passing of former MP Asot Michael and was initially expected to attract a broader slate of contenders.

Officially Nominated Candidates:

Rawdon Turner (ABLP):
Representing the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), Rawdon Turner is a contractor and a sitting Senator. Turner’s campaign will likely focus on continued development and economic progress for St. Peter.

George Wehner (UPP):
George Wehner, representing the United Progressive Party (UPP), is a businessman and the party’s Mobilization Officer. Wehner’s campaign centers on transparency, accountability, and addressing the concerns of the constituency’s residents.

Nigel Bascus of the Missing Link Voice of the People and Owen “Go Green” George of the GO Green Party, who had previously expressed interest in contesting the seat, did not proceed with formal nominations.

Their absence narrows the field to a direct contest between the ABLP and UPP candidates.

The January 14 by-election will now be a two-way contest between the ABLP and UPP, with both parties vying to secure the critical St. Peter seat.

Voters in the constituency will ultimately decide who will represent their interests in Parliament.

  1. Is George Wehners slogan a copy of Turners? The sniper was tossed into the fray without a plan for St Peters. He is visionless, merit less, undeserving and Insulting the people of St Peters with his presence asking for their vote.
Reject him, don’t open your door to him & on Election Day vote against him.
    Turner all day.

  2. One can only hope. Wehner is a joke and an insult to the people of St Peters intelligence. No seed for George The Sniper Wehner.

  3. Parham Pussy and Sham, I am wondering if the two of you are from that constituency. I highly doubt it. While Whenner is not my favorite person it is not about likeability. It is obvious that you want the ALP to continue its reign of neglect in the constituency. Asot represented the constituency for twenty years. He was a great humanitarian however a poor excuse for a representative. The constitueccy is sitting just above the constituency of St Phillips North as the most neglected constituency in Antigua. The two constituencies have known only labour representatives. Is that what you want to continue? Do you really love this island? That’s the most unusual way to profess your love for Antigua and Barbuda. The people deserve better. That better cannot be in the labor party. To continue doing the same thing and expecting a different result is INSANITY. You two are definitley mentally deranged. I will not say insane.

  4. When the leadership has no vision the organization perish. I am not just talking about D. Gisele Isaac or Hon. Jamal Pringle alone. I am talking also about Richard Lewis the divider – do you want to inherit a weak organization? All the sitting UPP MP’s and Anthony Smith the pirate. All the care takers , the executive or the general counsel. And all the branches. The past political leaders should have stepped in a long time and settled the disagreements . They should have pulled the organization / party together. Instead they left it to implode and explode. The same thing happened when Joahann Massiah left and a group of talented individuals left. They did nothing to try and bring them back into the organization.
During Recent parliamentary debate, they did even lift s finger. So it’s not that George Whenner is not a good candidate. It’s the party that is now at an all time low. In fact I credit him for bravery.
I will be surprised if he gets the amount of votes that Peter Reds got in the general elections , when the party showed a united face.

  5. Straight Shooter is asking who lives in the constituency. Amusing. Does Straight Shooter live there? Can’t be.

Lying George Wehnner claims there is no Water in St. Peter even though “major distribution lines pass through the constituency”.
J Truth who LIVES IN THE CONSTITUENCY done tell arwe wata a flow NF. He has also reported on the road works. So lying about these things is not only ineffective, it further weakens what little 3% credibility the UPP still has.

The people in the constituency see and know the work that is being done including extensive road works.

Rawdon Turner is just the Asot evolution St. Peter people need. He brings the usual humanitarian efforts along with a more strategic focus on infrastructural and other community development.

George Wehner is a caustic outsider running with a leaderless self destructing party. There is literally no choice in this by election, which is a sad indictment of the Pringle Puppet and the failed UPP leadership.

The Red Tsunami on nomination day told the tale. Wehner and the dozen blue-faced lames who accompanied him already know what the outcome will be on January 14.
