One-Nation Concert postponed until Independence 2021

6

Cabinet Notes: The Minister with responsibility for Festivals, invited the four officials with responsibility for the annual One-Nation Concert, usually held in January each year, to appear before the Cabinet.

The Cabinet determined that the cost of such a concert, even virtually, could not be borne by the Government at this time.

Hence, the 2021 One-Nation Concert has been postponed until Independence 2021 when the nation celebrates 40 years, or postponed to January 2022, by which time the pandemic may have subsided.

  1. From Day 1 I had a problem with the One Nation Concert. How can the government justify paying for a free concert every year and then turn around and have problems paying salaries and pensions a few months later. That is not good governance. I’ve never seen a minister protest that his/her salary is late. SMH

  2. @ time to cancel ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
This would is a gross waste of the people’s money.
    Tone deaf cabinet decision.
The economic hardship of the pandemic will be with us for a decade.

  3. Seriously? You wasted people’s time by inviting them to Cabinet at this time to talk about a problematic concert? I agree with a previous poster. Cancel One Nation. You all could barely pay Carnival winners and vendors but would give away 300k needlessly? Time for the government to start saving.

  4. Bah Humbug!!! Who cares??? We have a hodge podge mixture of people living in the same space, all who love their country more than Antigua; not a nation.
Just yesterday the PM talked about lack of discipline in the country. Now they are speaking as if this foolish concert is a necessity.
    Fine example of fiscal discipine(NOT!!!!!)
