Industrial action has disrupted operations at the Office of National Drug Control and Money Laundering Policy after employees raised concerns about unhealthy conditions at the Camp Blizzard facility.
People’s Union General Secretary Andie Stephen said workers acted following a Department of Analytical Services report that flagged mold and moisture issues inside the building. She said repeated appeals from staff and the union went unanswered, prompting the decision to withdraw their labour.
Stephen said employees will remain off the job until a new inspection is conducted and the outstanding issues are resolved.

Why did it have to come to this extremity? The health of all must be a priority in the workplace. That is a Government Agency. It appears that all Government Buildings are very poorly maintained.WHY? When Government holds the peoples purse strings. Is it that they do not care about the people.
Everything about this Administration is just bloody mouldy. With how well Gaston claim we are doing we still hear this kind of nonsense. Who’s fooling who. This is really shameful and disgraceful
Government does not pay attention to maintenance…..They just don’t…..For u UPP supporters both parties are guilty of this and we need to do better…
That’s how ALP work , and understand it, beside calling and telling you all let certain people of white or Syrian extraction alone and tiptoe around them, they sent you-all on useless courses and lack of office maintenance to interrupt investigations.
A safe and healthy working environment is a fundermental principle and right at work. These disruptions have been happening too often. It is time that central government establish and set up a body within the Ministry of Works or Health to check, oversee and monitor the conditions in all Government entities including Statutory Corporations. It sends the wrong message when workers have to take action for better and improved working conditions.
@this world is a messed up place – it’s ver evident, that the indoctrinations by poliTRICKtans have even caused certain HUEmans thought process(es), to become molded, as they mold them to become political sycophants.
What utter nonsense are you spewing from your thoughts? Have your brains become moulded by the molding/indoctrination, of poliTRICKtans?
I could give a skunk’s ass about political party and affiliations; but, logic and common sense must take precedence over bullshit aka phuckery!
First off mold do not last on a surface for ten years before being noticed, if such was the case, it would be inches thick which in itself is impossible because it’s a spore and would have being blown away.
Mold develops on surfaces in 24 to 48 hours under ideal conditions. These conditions are moisture, heat, poor ventilation, humidity in particular after water damage.
It would be interesting to know, if these government owned facilities are now using drywall/sheetroch as wall coverings. Because, if they are, because moisture and humidity are standard in the tropics, durock cement boards or green moisture resistant drywall only should be used.
This now leads to planning, design and maintenance, which it is well known that the public sector does a piss poor job at. So please, do the people a favor and leave the bullshit excuses in the garage to be taken to the dump site. Please; and let’s hope it’s not the very dangerous and infectious black mold.

That’s how they are compensated for turning their backs on the corruption of the ALP. I couldn’t be happier for them.
It is obvious that the Administrators on this Island 🏝 has more interest in Creatively enriching themselves @ the expense of the well-being of the people. Our only hospital is unsanitary, our road infrastructure is awful and we have an educational crisis in our schools. I am sorry for anyone who has to take over the governance of this Island, after the destruction by the present
Why are you paying Union Dues?
People in Antigua need to understand that the government does not perform preventive maintenance. The government builds but doesn’t maintain its buildings—sometimes it tries a little corrective maintenance here and there, but not enough. The labour force, or workforce, is always there at the PublicWorks Department, so that’s not a problem.
1. Perform Frequent preventive maintenance inspection
2. Corrective maintenance to repair or replace the problem(s) found from the inspection.
3. Materials to carryout the corrective action should always be on hand.
If ONDCP staff protesting then we in trouble
Imagine going to work every day breathing in mold. That alone could make people sick. Address it properly.
The union doing what they supposed to do. Workers health must come first.
That’s what you call exercising your right. But sort out all you self cause there seems to be some confusion over which union represents you guys
Dont worry gaston will come and butter their mouth and the will go back to work
You can’t expect people to sit down in damp, moldy office and work like everything normal. Fix the place man.
Good for them! People shouldn’t be expected to work in unsafe conditions, no matter the job
If mold in that building for so long and nobody do nothing, then staff right to take action. Health is not joke business.
