Rai Benjamin Returns Home for Training Camp Alongside Olympic Stars

Olympic gold medalist Rai Benjamin, celebrated for his remarkable 400m hurdles victory at the Paris Olympics, has returned to Antigua for a post-Olympic training camp.

Benjamin, whose father is former West Indies cricket legend Winston Benjamin, arrived at VC Bird International Airport alongside a team of professional athletes, greeted warmly by members of the Ministry of Tourism.

Tourism Minister Hon. Max Fernandez extended heartfelt greetings, underscoring the government’s pride in hosting the accomplished athletes.

“It is truly an honor and privilege to welcome all of you here on behalf of the government. We wish you a successful season and even greater accomplishments in 2025,” Fernandez said.

Expressing his excitement, Benjamin acknowledged the unique opportunity to reconnect with his roots while preparing for future competitions.

“We were thrilled when we heard about this chance to train in Antigua post-Olympics. It’s a great way to break the routine of being in the U.S. and enjoy some fun while staying focused. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this possible. It feels amazing to be back home,” he said.

Joining Benjamin is Veron Norwood, another Olympic gold medalist from the United States, who expressed his delight at visiting Antigua for the first time.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be here. I’m looking forward to working hard and enjoying everything Antigua and Barbuda has to offer. The hospitality has been incredible, and I’m just soaking in this wonderful experience,” Norwood shared.

The athletes and their team will conduct their training camp on the island until December 31, blending rigorous preparation with opportunities to explore the culture and beauty of Antigua and Barbuda.

This visit reinforces the country’s reputation as an ideal destination for sports and relaxation.
