Barnes Funeral Home Demolished as Antigua Cruise Port Expansion Advances
The demolition of the former Barnes Funeral Home has marked a significant step forward in Antigua Cruise Port’s Upland Development Project, paving the way for a new state-of-the-art cruise terminal.
Officials confirmed that the long-standing property was cleared as part of broader redevelopment works aimed at modernising port infrastructure and enhancing visitor facilities. The project is being driven by Global Ports Holding, which has pledged to deliver world-class upgrades to match the growing demands of the cruise industry.
The milestone coincided with the arrival of Rhapsody of the Seas on October 2, the first scheduled call of the 2025/2026 cruise season. The ship’s visit set a lively tone for what is expected to be a record-breaking year for cruise arrivals in Antigua and Barbuda.

Port managers said the dual achievements — the demolition of the Barnes site and the start of the new season — underscore their commitment to shaping the harbour into a modern gateway for tourism growth.
