On Recent Military Activities in the Southern Caribbean
The Protocol Member States of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) express deep concern regarding recent reports of intensified military operations by external powers in the southern Caribbean Sea, including the destruction of vessels alleged to be involved in narcotics trafficking without interception or verification in contravention of international law.
While our governments remain firmly committed to regional and international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime, including drug trafficking, we are equally committed to the preservation of the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace – a principle solemnly affirmed by the Heads of Government of our region and supported by the United Nations General Assembly.
We are therefore concerned that heightened military activities in and around the Southern Caribbean risk escalating tensions and misunderstandings in a region whose stability and security are essential to the well-being of our peoples.
Actions undertaken without adequate consultation or communication with regional partners risk creating misunderstandings and tensions and may inadvertently embroil the entire Caribbean in a wider confrontation, undermining decades of careful diplomacy and peaceful coexistence.
We are deeply concerned about the indisputable impact of any potential military action on our small, vulnerable societies and economies and the erosion of the hard-won gains over the past decades.
The Protocol Member States of the OECS reaffirm that:
• Peace and dialogue must remain the cornerstone of regional and hemispheric relations.
• Respect for sovereignty and non-interference are essential to maintaining trust and stability.
• Collective security and cooperation are the most effective means of combating organised crime and ensuring the safety of our maritime space.
We therefore urge all partners to engage in open consultation with the Caribbean Community and the OECS before any initiative that could alter the regional security balance.
The Caribbean’s greatest strength has always been its unity, its diplomacy, and its steadfast commitment to resolving differences through peaceful means.

Tell the man in Venezuela to stop sending drugs and stand down or else….America does not have to listen to anybody….The drug cartels are flooding it’s coast and they are sick of it so they are taking them out at the root….Getting rid of the enabler and replacing him with someone the west would prefer…..That is the mission and it will be executed just like how they get rid of Saddam and Gaddafi….Kim Jong Un is only lucky because of the threat of nuclear war with Russia and China otherwise he would be forced out also……..I know America disturbing the tranquility of the region and our tourism etc but IT MUST BE DONE!!!
U GO TRUMPSKI!!!! Action Man aka Orange Man
All very nice words, diplomacy and co-operation, but who is taking the lead? What plans do our small states have in place if the avenues of diplomacy and co-operation fail? Sure, wars have been fought in and over our waters before and our lands are still standing…but what was the cost to it’s people’s?
Today the claim is drug interdiction. The underlying narrative is what lies under our waters and our soils that is suddenly awakening the sleeping giants to the north and the east? Who gets to control that?
Where did America’s fascination with deadly drugs spring from? When did it start? Some would say after the Vietnam war. Venezuela does not grow or mass produce the drugs that they are now claiming to war against, Fentanyl.
Crack cocaine is still a major drug problem in the US. Methamphetamine is still a major scourge on the landscape of the US, yet, I do not hear of the scorched earth tactics on their own shores to rid themselves of these drugs that have taken and is still taking on so many lives in their country.
Now, do not get me wrong, I am not saying that the Cartels that are using our waters should be allowed to run free, rather, use the legal means of interdiction, stop, board, search, if drugs are found, take the perpetrators to court, get convictions, find the head of the snake and gut it.
Meanwhile, look after the health of your people. Get them cleaned up. If there is no more the demand, the supply will dry up. But, ahh, there is no money to be gained by that. If, however, hands can surreptitiously get ahold of the largest oil reserves and be able to exploit at will the sea bed for rare minerals, then……….
No, we in this region need to be more than just tongue waggers, we need to be the defenders of our Zone of Peace. This is the lifeblood of our islands. It is our peaceful, tranquil way of life that encourages others to visit our shores, providing us with some of the means to support ourselves – we MUST PROTECT THAT.
@ this world is a messed up place,
You are so right with that statement.
I’d add the world is filled with people like you whose head is messed up.
Just a little tit-bit of our Caribbean world.
The moment Trump attacks Venezuela, the oil and petroleum products stops flowing from Venezuela to Antigua.
The US has had its eyes on Venezuela oil reserves since Hugo Chavez kicked out Chevron.
Maduro doesn’t need drugs to make him rich he controls the largest oil reserves there is in the world.
Why would the billionaires who control the US media owners put that out there as a factor.
Why would those who stand to benefit from not disclosing these factors go ahead and put out as the following information and news?
Murdocks: Fox News billionaire ownership
Washington Post: Jeff Bezos billionaire ownership
Paramount/NBC: David Ellison son of Larry Ellison Billionaire
Los Angeles Times Oatruck Soon-Shiong billionaire
X/Twitter : Elon Muck billionaire
It’s a nice thing to do when CARiCOM and OECS issues a statement about peace in the Southern Caribbean Seas. But other than being in the record it’s meaningless.
CARICOM is a ceremonial organization. Its value is questionable.
It was not the creator of University of The West Indies
It was not the creator of West Indies Cricket
These are two failing franchises.
Ask yourselves why is CARICOM nations still dependent on the Cuban Medical Brigade?
Where are the-inter island cargo and passenger ships?
Instead the Governor of The OECS Central bank will be occupying a $$22 million home
The Gead of CARICOM just moved into her multistory faculty
This could genuinely be the start of something big if not WWIII with Trinidad supporting US, and Russia open support of Venezuela surprising which I thought their invasion of Ukraine would have them busy. Even if the CARICOM stays neutral like a Switzerland situation Puerto Rico is use as a base and Putin says he would escalate if America distribute missiles to Ukraine.
I am curious what’s the outcome Maduro and Venezuela if this continues to progress because historically US invasions devastates counties which could see the rise of another revolution like Chavez which legacy took a hit under Maduro poor governance.
@ Politically tribeless HA HA HA!!!!! My head is messed up because I spoke the truth ok……..Venezuela’s economy is heavily reliant on oil, which has historically accounted for the majority of its export earnings. Decades of mismanagement, underinvestment, and political instability have led to a severe economic collapse, marked by hyperinflation, plummeting oil production, and a humanitarian crisis. While there have been some recent signs of economic moderation and slow growth, the overall outlook remains fragile due to structural issues and sanctions.

I do not think the Caribbean people understand what the consequences can be for them if there is war in the region. Rockets have no name on them. And cruise ships will not take any risk with their ships and passengers. Therefore we will loose lots and lots of revenue. And the shipping rates will get very high. Especially is their were to be one accident. This is not a gun fight like the old days. These are guided missiles that could lose their way. And yes America has the best weapons as far as we know. But even they were not able to beat the Taliban in Afghanistan nor ISIS in Afghanistan. And see who is now in power in Syria. If they think a war with Venezuela would be over in a couple of days they have something else coming. They will have to fight a war for year to come. When people fight for their homeland they just do not give up. They will fight and runaway and live to fight another day. So whatever picture they have painted to Donald that Venezuela would be, I want him to remember Iraq. How many time Bush claimed the war was over. And after ten year they decided to withdraw because it caused them too much. Russia learned the same lessons from Afghanistan and now they learning it from Ukraine. Israel is learning that no matter how many bombs you throw over GAZA you cannot beat the Palestinians. Unless like what they are doing is to commit a GENOCIDE. Starve them to death. When will we learn that war never ever solve the problem.
Gullible people seem to accept anything Washington tells them. They seem to have forgotten how we have been lied to that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction and he was an imminent threat. Only to find out that it was a lie. And did we ever got an apology. And did they pay Iraq for the destruction they cause? The hundreds of thousands Iraqi citizens that they killed. No hell NO. They can kill whomever they want to. We see it right here in our Caribbean waters. You think drug smugglers are that stupid knowing that the American Navy is here in full force, to take the change to run a drug operation. by the way the drugs come with normal Cargo Ships in Containers. And Custom Officers are paid off to look the other way. Or they are flown in with private jets and dropped of the planes with GPS inside them and the ground people can track them and collect them. Again we have seen all of that in movies. A guy get a handsome amount of money to make a trip to a secret air strip pick up the load and drop it off somewhere in the dessert. He will not even see who picks up the drugs.
