Antigua and Barbuda has officially declared October as Anti-Litter Month, launching a nationwide campaign to promote cleaner communities and greater environmental responsibility.
Under the theme “Love Where You Live,” the initiative brings together schools, civic groups, government agencies, and residents in a month of coordinated cleanups and awareness activities. Officials say the goal is not only to improve the island’s physical environment but also to encourage lasting changes in how people treat public spaces.
Planned activities include island-wide cleanup drives, partnerships with community and school organisations, and public education campaigns highlighting the health, tourism, and developmental benefits of keeping the nation clean.
Government representatives say Anti-Litter Month is designed to tackle ongoing waste management challenges while fostering national pride. “Maintaining a clean environment is a shared duty,” one official noted, “and its rewards extend to public health, the visitor experience, and Antigua and Barbuda’s long-term development.”

The observance, now set to become an annual fixture, is expected to rally citizens around the principle that protecting the environment begins with personal responsibility.

For those who hire persons to dispose of material, be sure they don’t take shortcuts. Many times the material can be traced to the business. I actually contacted one such business and advised them that their trash ended up somewhere other than the dump.
You need to come down Hatton and see nastyness on the way to Royalton.
Hope the government also works with businesses to reduce plastic waste. That would make a huge difference.
Alot of the communities leading to the hotels are so populated with rubbish you wonder if anyone seeing the mess
Commendation to the government. A much needed effort. A beautiful country full of garbage is not sending a good message
We hear this every year, but how much really changes after the month ends?
We need anti-litter everyday. Take a look at the country we live in, I could swear cooks dump is the whole country. One month? That’s ridiculous
Every damn month should be anti litter month. Some people to damn nasty
We need to set-up a holiday for cleanup activities. The entire place is full of rubbish
