Observer fabricated report about PSC says PM

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said that a report about him instructing the Police Service Commission is false.

He was responding to a publication in the opposition-friendly newspaper, the “Daily” Observer which stated that Browne met with the PSC and he rubbished the claims made against a senior police officer and does not support an investigation.

However, Browne told Pointe FM, a radio station that he claims to have founded but does not own, that “there was no such instruction and no such discussion.”

The opposition-friendly media house reported in two separate articles that it has letters from male police officers who complained about sexual advances from a senior officer also male.

Browne questions the truthfulness of that report, “so whereas the Observer said they received four letters of complaint it’s not true.”

“I was told there is nothing formal to this day before the commission,” he added.

The prime minister says he has no power to instruct the commission and even if he could “they have their own independence.”

“Today they carried another fabricated story saying that I instructed the PSC not to deal with the issue when there is nothing before the commission. ”
