Nut Grove’s Notorious Criminal Safehouse Set for Demolition

6

Antigua and Barbuda Member of Parliament (MP), Daryll Matthew, has unveiled plans to demolish a half-constructed building known for harboring criminals in the Nut Grove area.

This decision follows a recent town hall meeting addressing residents’ concerns about escalating crime rates, including incidents of rape linked to the building.

Although political considerations had previously hindered action, structural assessments revealed the building’s instability, prompting the decision to demolish it.

Matthew aims to engage with relevant authorities and the community to explain the decision thoroughly.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Samuel Joseph advocates restricting access to the site and emphasizes the importance of community-police relations to combat crime effectively.

  1. Who are the owners of that property? Why the authorities do not push to have it completed into apartments rather than to push it down. You pushed it down, then what.

    • The article clearly states that “structural assessments revealed the building’s instability” meaning that its more than likely inhabitable; hence, the owner couldn’t go forward with completing it even if they wanted to.

The best option now, as stated by the Minister would be to have it demolished.

  3. @ANON: Why they do not push down that Court building in grays farm.It has structural issues.I cannot read English very well.I could only count my $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and have a lot of it.

  4. That’s a very interesting headline for potential visitors.
A small island that’s marketed as an idealist tourist destination, has such things as criminal safe-house.
The free movement of criminals who are welcomed as Caribbean bothers and sisters; as well as an incompetent police staff and prosecutors together with politicians who are themselves criminals has resulted in a phenomenon called a criminal safehouse. How idealistic and inviting
