NPA, DCA collaborate in removing illegal structure from Mamora Bay

22

An illegal coastal structure has been removed from the Mamora Bay area located within the boundaries of the national parks in Antigua.

Heavy duty equipment rolled into the area on Wednesday 5th August and destroyed the structure as a result of the collaborative efforts of the Development Control Authority (DCA) and the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park.

The attention of the National Park was drawn to construction work on an Infinity plunge pool, which did not benefit from the requisite approval as required by the National Parks Act of 1985, Section 5 and the NPA Regulations of 2012.

Part of the foundation of the pool was constructed in the water and had it gone ahead would have resulted in significant changes to the coastal dynamics of the area.

The homeowner was found to be in violation of established statutes and left the management of the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park with no choice but to seek the support and intervention of the DCA in removing the structure.

“We must be grateful to the DCA for its speedy response and assertive action in dealing with this blatant violation,” stated Parks Commissioner Ann Marie Martin.

“The law and the NPA regulations are quite clear. Developers, landowners and residents should not have to be reminded that permission is required prior to the commencement of any development activity in the national park,” Mrs. Martin affirmed.

Meantime Deputy Town and Country Planner Clement Antonio stated the DCA remains constant in its vigilance against violations of the provisions of Antigua and Barbuda’s Physical Planning Act.

“It helps when agencies like the National Park are also watchful and keen in bringing infractions to our attention. We will at all times respond,” Antonio stated.

  1. So what about Yida . What they are doing is fine and courses no changes to our environment . Rules are for who Gaston wants rules to be for .

Why is Yida still allowed to continue business as usual? We Antiguans want total transparency. All govts work for the people NOT the other way around.

  3. What about the illegal structure made of stolen materials from Shirley Height ruins that is next to Sun Ra restaurant in English Harbour. A front for illegal activity as well.

    • Kudos to NPA and DCA :
Too many ppl like yourself come here and want to do as you please ( Anansi) further more That structure you mentioned was build by stones : not from Shirley Height stones: further more why don`t you stop by yourself and see what is happening there. Daryl is a born ANTIGUAN. FED UP OF YOU PPL. BLACK LIVES DO MATTER………

    • Sherlock Holmes if that stone structure you referred to was built with even ONE stone from Shirley Heights ruins, the mere fact that it belongs to a BLACK ANTIGUA, they woulda done throw his black a&& in prison long time ago… They would not need Anansi (of all people) to draw it to their attention. While you’re at it, why don’t you point out all the white owned million $$ houses around the St Paul’s Community that were definitely built with the said stones from Shirley Heights.. We would all like to know what does that black man have for you that you felt the need to defame his character with your claims of him being a thief and his business place being a front for illegal activities.?? So a black man have anything nice unless it’s stolen? Or a Fisher man is not allowed to earn a living in Antigua now. Oh sorry, its illegal to sell fish. Is that what you are trying to say?
Anansi you need to come from behind the mask of your pseudonym and STOP SPREADING LIES… We’d

    • Unlike some people I do not use aliases, so when I make a statement it must be clear without ambiguity. There are two white men ,very rich, playing their rich games on your back, and the best you can do is try to draw the Brotherhood into the filthy cesspool of rape exploitation and degradation of native Antiguans by these 2 rich white men? Brotherhood represents peace and love.
Brotherhood rejects any form of illegality against Antigua and Antiguans. All who embrace our kinship defends the soul of this country in ways you coward would not even imagine. So, here is some advice for you, just crawl back under what rock you ventured, or present yourself to defend your absurd assertion.

    • You should get your facts straight as there is no illegal activity at the building next to Ra restaurant. The owner is a hard working fisherman and native Antiguan so I am wondering what your agenda is to throw such allegations that are untrue. Be careful what you say…….

  4. @Anansi that structure has been there for sooo many years and built by a born Antiguan, English Harbour resident… If the stones were from Shirley Heights why would we need YOU to point that out NOW… don’t you think National Parks Authority would have already figured it out?? Your comment only goes to show that you have a PERSONAL issue with the owner of that stone structure. MOST LIKELY A DOSE OF RACISM MIXED WITH JEALOUSY AND HATE… but FYI: THE AIRPORT HAS REOPENED.
    P. S Anansi was nothing but a dam liar and mischief maker…EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE !!!

  5. Anansi please bring your excavator and come, have you ever heard about ( wet you hand and wait for me) it must be a real pain for you to see, that lovely stone wall house a black man own right at the dock of the bay his grandmother die at the age of 99 2017. Go and do the maths. (Black pradise) NOT FOR SALE

  6. ANANSI
I’m assuming that the structure that you pointed out is a problem to you! You’re so bothered by it that you deem it necessary to spread rumors about stolen stones and illegal activities?
Guess what? He was born and raised right there! Not to mention “OUR GRANDMOTHER” was also born and raised right there! Yes, right there by the dock of the bay that all of you are envious of!!!
If he had stolen anything he would have already been thrown into Her Majesty’s 1735!!!
Antiguans aren’t supposed to have a piece of PRIME LAND TOO?
Good job DCA! “Tear dung dem unapproved INFINITY pool or whatever”

  7. How many years ? So all of a sudden where you come from With this nonsense. My dear grandmother passed at 99 years old . Where were you ? Black lives matter. Your eyes hurt to see a young black man build such beauty with his hands ? Everything on this earth 🌍 is not for sale . Try some where else. Daryl is a born and bread Antiguan . 10. This is clearly racism!!! An Antiguan man can’t strive in his own country???.. This is clearly bullshit.. You hate to see black people live good huh??? Because the house is so lovely its a bother to??? Oh my god mon have a heart.. after so many years how is it that is now you’re saying its stolen stones.. Give me a break

  11. Everyone needs to stop this black and white bullshit thing. That won’t get anyone anywhere. We all need to work together.

History has taught us that foreiners killed the indigenous people (right out of existence) and black people were brought here as slaves. All these islands were colonised and that’s the way is was back then, not that it makes it right at all. Now we are where we are. We can’t change history but we shouldn’t continue the racist bs either. Learn from it and adjust. Who is guilty is guilty but not guilty because of skin colour. It’s way past the time we all stop this racist bullshit.

  12. Br. Anansi. Am missing your post today .I know it is personal with what ever grudfe you gave with the brotherhood how on earth could you compare this little stone building with that huge project . It’s like mixing oranges with apples. Was there some thing Big in that project for you.
Plenty more brucking dong a hotel place.
    Enough is enough. A bayeeeee

  13. Br Anansie.
Correcting my typo error ..plenty more brucking dong of illegal projects will be taking place .Embrace yourself..NPA and DCA waking up to the crap that’s taking place Hellooooooo we taking back our lands. Antiguan (English Harbour)lands matters

  14. I am an Antiguan and I abhor the racist comments which appear above. We are a multi-cultural society and just as much as racism against black people in America is despicable so are the comments above about non-black people living in Antigua.

A survey of the 2004 election showed that just over half the people who voted were not born in Antigua and that could be extrapolated to say that half the population are immigrants, white, black, brown or yellow and most of them bring benefits to the country. Of course, some will always take advantage as did Daryl Marsh when he broke the law.

The country is immensely dependent upon these immigrants for its wealth especially in the tourism industry. Comments such as those above could easily destroy tourism and the people ranting about their ‘heritage’ might find themselves sitting on a pile of ancient stones eating the leaves of the widdy widdy bush. Please enjoy what you believe to be your right to freedom of expression but if you are not careful it might backfire upon you. Racism works both ways.

As I recollect, Daryl Marsh was arrested for stealing stones from the monuments in the National Park including grave stones with which he illegally built the house on the water front. I am told that the reasons he was not prosecuted was that the police were too slow to act and that he was somewhat protected by his family’s status in the area.

Just because you are born in Antigua does not give you the right to break the law.
