November is being observed as World Diabetes Month with November 14th being World Diabetes Day.
The Antigua and Barbuda Diabetes Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will be hosting a week of activities.
A workshop will be held for persons living with diabetes and their family members from 8:30am to 3pm at the Mount St. Johns Medical Centre auditorium on Saturday, November 10th.
The discussion will include the family and diabetes, knowing your medications, meal planning, heart health and CPR and the family.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Orita Zachariah, Pharmacist, Mr. Andre Bovell, Chief Nutritionist, Ms. Samantha Moitt, Internal Medicine Consultant, Dr. Sharon Cordner and Emergency Care Provider, Mr. Anderson Tuitt will be the featured speakers.
There will also be a church service will be held at the Kentish Pentecostal Church at 8am on Sunday November 11th.
Monday November 12th will be the media day and Tuesday November 13 will be educational day in selected schools.
On World Diabetes Day, November 14, there will be a live interview of a family living with diabetes. There will also be “talking in the square” street fair from 9am to 3pm. This will be held at headquarters of the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment.
On Thursday November 15th, there will be education workshops at selected work places while the activities will culminate on Saturday November 17 with a walk and breakfast beginning at the Lions Den and going through the city of St. John’s.
