The Cabinet today expressed its “deep concern” by reports of those men and women who engage in the illicit drug trade and who often turn to violent means in order to settle their differences.
A statement said, “the Cabinet is especially concerned with those who come from other places and who choose to engage in this nefarious business.”
It warned that “anyone concerned with drug trafficking in Antigua and Barbuda, whose birthplace is other than Antigua and Barbuda, will be returned to their home country.
They will be declared persona non grata, a National Security risk, and immediately repatriated.”

Cutie Benjamin will have to move for this to be effective
😂😂😂😂😂
Not just drugs, any criminal activity, shoulshould be deported
It’s about time these criminal elements has been a blight and continue to be a menace to our beloved society. Every country is looking to secure their country from rouge elements I see no reason why we should not do the same.
Well said!!!
Facts! Total Agreement!
This is great news but must go further than drug traffickers. We have enough problems on our own and we must begin to repatriate ALL persons who commits any serious crime and whose birthplace is not Antigua. This is a move long overdue and welcomed. I hope it is strictly enforced without fear or favour. There are tons of people that must be viewed as a threat to our National Security and they must be returned to their place of birth.
I think it is a wonderful move.when they serve they time send them home . but as a statement was mention before only if cutie move from there.America is sending them back home so why can’t we .it is time to make things happen mr.prime minister. Do what u have to do the correct thing .
High time and long overdue.
Jus now ah ru azz know that it should have been implemented laaaannnnggg garlin time but BOTH ADMINISTRATION NEEDED THEIR VOTES NOW ANTIGUA HAS BECOME A STINKING LIL 3 rd world island bcos of them…….
The policy should state “in the commission of any criminal activity or found guilty” not limiting it to drug trafficking. Enforcing policies that are iron clad makes law enforcement proactive and respected. Its about time Antigua put sound deportation policies in place.
Misdemeanors too?
Are you saying that this was not standard operating procedure all the time?
Cartoon make pretend country….
Normal things are unusual.
Maybe this time. A Caribbean national who severely wounded his girlfriend is still here…
Please. this is the best policy for the country. I Don’t think anyone minds immigrants living here but our laws must be observed and followed as well as our culture and practices and I would expect the same for Antiguans that chooses to live else where. My personal feeling is we should be screening for persons who can make a meaningful contribution to nation building. Person that move here from poorer communities in some countries only put a strain on our very fragile infrastructure, Education system, Health Care system and above all our national security interest. I pray that we are able to fix it so that the government can be better able to go about building a better Antigua and Barbuda.
This is a very good move.I have been saying this for many moons now.The immigration department, along with the court would now need to do their work. The deportation order should not cover just drugs crimes. It should cover all felonies not misdemeanors. Those committing felonies are usually given jail time and should be deported forthwith.Misdemeanors(shoplifting) usually involves a fine with no jail time.
I agree with your statement.
Finally Antigua is going to start to solve the huge problem that CARICOM immigration rules have brought upon us. We are forced to take-in risky low-educated immigrants from Jamaica and Haiti (and others) under CARICOM rules.
This is the worst thing that ever happened to Antigua. So many dirty and filthy criminals from other countries hanging out in Antigua, it’s time for us to kick them out. I say we kick them out for any major crime committed in our nation, just like other countries do.
The only thing I think we should change in the proposed new law is that we shouldn’t get into a situation where we kick out Antigua naturalised citizens (or Antigua CIP citizens). My view is that once you are an Antigua citizen, Antigua’s soil is also yours forever. I think it’s important to deal with our own citizens.
Correction: we brought this on ourselves because ABLP care about nothing else but being in power. This action will help but will not come anywhere near solving the problem.
i dare you to deport me if I am a trafficker for one of your primary supporters!
It is high time that not just the government but indigenous Antiguans take illicit acts committed by foreigners seriously. We are way to small of a country to allow any and everyone to settle. Antigua has quickly become the cesspool of the Caribbean and we should all do our part. Antiguans befriend, hire and entertain the immoral behavior of most foreigners. When that behavior becomes blatant, obnoxious and overbearing we blame past and present governments. We need to not only blame ourselves, but do something about it, ourselves.
Foreigners help build this country. Stop hating on your Caribbean brothers and sisters. Why u dont deport the Syrians (major drug pushers) . Tire containers come full of drugs all the time. What about the Chinese and Whites ….some of them are criminals too. But we all know who this is targeted towards …JAMAICANS AND GUYANESE!
Countries around the world foreigners have participated in it development just like Antigua and Barbuda which is not the first. They also deported people when they’re found in foul of the law. For example, I know of some Antiguans and Barbudans who had committed crimes in North America and hold a citizenship and green card were deported. Their citizenship and green card were revoked.
Joanne Massiah has shared similar sentiments, but then she backtracked/toned down fearing backlash.
You know that this subject is a sour point as most non-nationals don’t like it when they are the subject. I want to make it abundantly clear that we do not hate non nationals. We have always been very accommodating to them. For as long as I know myself, Montserratians and Dominicans have always lived amongst us. And years ago, when it was difficult to get Antiguans to join the police force, we imported personnel from Grenada, St.Vincent, Barbados & Guyana in particular to join the force. What I am saying is that we have always accommodated non nationals some of whom have done awful things and have betrayed our trust in them. We do not want Antigua to become a heaven for crime and criminals like some Caribbean countries. So when you misbehave, you should be sent back to your country Better you ply your criminal behaviour in your country of birth. If you want to live here, behave…thats all. And for those who think that I hate non nationals, my wife is a Jamaican….the cream of the crop, so I hate no one.
Hmmmmmm…….Everything bad that happens in this country…..Non- nationals get the blame for it. Its very sad and unfair…Antiguans commit crimes too here and abroad. Some of u would rather kiss the white man’s *** and others than embracing and welcoming your own people. Thats why the black race is always down. No love or unity…instead we tear eachother down. The Chinese and Syrians help their ppl. So many of u hate your own ppl…especially ppl from 2 particular countries. Bunch of hypocrites too..some of u are married to and date Non-nationals and still hate them. All u do is bad talk them n bring them down. Try uniting and uplifting instead. U eat the food we prepare and party to our music and still u hate us. #morelove
Rudeboy4life, No one ever blames non-nationals for everything. Antiguans commit crimes too but we cannot deport them anywhere. Being born in a country gives you certain rights and privileges. Just as happened in the United States and elsewhere, being allowed in a foreign country comes with certain expectations. You run afoul of the law in any foreign country, you should be sent packing to your country of birth. This is nothing new. It’s easy. Be law abiding and avoid trouble. If I go to Jamaica or anywhere else and I commit a crime, after serving my time, its only fair and right that they ship me back to Antigua and never allow me to return to that country where I committed the crime or infringement.
Love this…I say no more
Well said
Total Bs!!…..
bwaaah ha haaa hahaha
hahahahahaha wooiieeeee heee hahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahh
more Trump tactics and jokes – not a ting a go happen to dem, non nationals run antigua
lakka say well that policy is not the law but not for the parliamentary representative of Jamaica who all the criminals have on speed dial
how much non national criminal just get released by the AG and still roaming Antigua…the female pedophile from Jamaica, the woman beater from Guyana and lots more..
in antigua all you have to do if you’re a non national criminal is let a certain law office defend u and the connections you make will exempt u from being deported after a crime
I wonder if the cabinet thought this through?
The term non national is an interesting one. What does it really mean and how do you apply it?
A person born outside of Antigua and Barbuda who commits a drug crime after he gain Antiguan citizenship, is he or she still a non national?
Seems as if legislation has to be made to revoke passports under those circumstances.
This cabinet policy is quite weak and not very useful. How many non Nationals commits illicit drug crimes per annum that cause cabinet to make this intervention?
If this was a policy across the board for any crime hip hip hooray for ABLP.
Reality
There are several drug cartels in Antigua.
The Antiguan market is to small for all to thrive.
This is a serious problem on the streets.
Is turf protection taking place?
People before you celebrate something take some time to consider all the factors and players. This is a strange policy, not sure what serious Ill it is correcting.
I wonder who brought this policy to cabinet. Perhaps when policies comes out the minister who place it on the table should be mentioned……think about it
I hope prostitutions would also be look at as a criminal act and it is also a big problem here
