No-Bottle Policy Enforced at Carnival City for 2025 Festivities
A strict no-bottle policy will be in place at Carnival City throughout the 2025 Carnival season, the Festival Commission has confirmed.
The announcement was made by Minister of Creative Industries and Sports, Daryll Matthew, during a recent inspection of the venue at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG).
Minister Matthew said the measure is essential to safeguarding the nation’s reputation as a host for international sporting events. The ARG, which transforms into Carnival City during the annual celebrations, also serves as a training ground for international cricket teams.
“We cannot risk having broken glass on the grounds, especially on the pitch or in the outfield area,” he said. “If a cricketer were to be injured by a piece of glass during practice, it would attract significant international attention and damage our standing as a credible cricket venue. Taking this into consideration, we will implement a no-bottle policy in ARG and Carnival City for the entirety of the 2025 season.”
The Festival Commission, led by Director Petley O’Keiffe, will be responsible for enforcing the policy. Marshals will patrol the grounds during events, and vendors found in breach risk losing their operating permits for the remainder of the season.
Director O’Keiffe has appealed to all vendors to serve drinks exclusively in disposable plastic cups, and patrons are being urged to accept beverages only in plastic containers.

Very great suggestion by Matthew, hope political capitulation don’t take place at the safety of our people.
This is not only a risk to the cricketers but I guess that’s all you guys care about. Let’s also think about the danger from the drunken, love fight Antiguans. That’s a real risk
