Nine Cameroon Nationals Escape Detention Facility in St. Kitts after Rescue at Sea

Final trip for many of the African Migrants

The St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard (SKNCG) rescued a group of Cameroon nationals on March 28, 2023, after their boat capsized at sea.

The rescued individuals were transported to St. Kitts where they were provided with medical and psychological care.

They were then detained at a government facility while awaiting repatriation to Antigua and Barbuda.

However, on April 26, 2023, the Ministry of National Security informed the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis of a developing situation concerning the African detainees.

Nine of the fourteen Cameroon nationals had escaped from the detention facility on St. Kitts.

Law enforcement officials have been working to locate the escaped detainees, and as of the morning of April 27th, four have been found. Five are still at large, and the search for them continues.

The Ministry of National Security has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any sightings of the escaped detainees to the authorities immediately.

The Ministry has also assured the public that every effort is being made to locate the missing individuals and that their safety is of utmost importance.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of the detention facility and the need for increased measures to prevent future escapes.

The Ministry of National Security has stated that it is reviewing its protocols and procedures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

  1. Was another boat organized to pick them up? These people to seem to be well organized with their people smuggling and have people in high places helping them. Were any of the people picked up from a boat off Aruba from the Cameroon?

  2. There we go. The drama continues. The saga surrounding them never cease to amaze me. The authorities both in Antigua and St.kitts must know that they have no intention of remaining in these islands. More attempts would be made to escape because the US continues to be their ultimate destination Having them in these islands is tantamount to being in prison to them.

    • We all need to be honest about this situation. These are Nigerians trying to get to the US. These are not scared Cameroonians trying to escape war. If that were the case they would have simply stayed in Antigua and lived like kings with the abundance of money they seem to have in their possessions.

  3. Wow. I wonder if UPP cause this escape too? You see how far the effects of greed can go? Now the whole Caribbean is affected because Gaston Browne lie down with crooks. What a dilemma.

    • @Gaston.. On learning they would have to come back to Antigua and knowing the discrimination they will face especially from UPP persons, they may have decided to again risk their lives

      • @perhaps: They didn’t learn they were coming back to Antigua because, the Antiguan Government REFUSED to have them repatriated.

Go spread your lies to the ALP sheeple.

        • @liar.. Read the article and follow the sequence, the escape of most of them(9 out of 14) came before Antigua according to the release change its mind. Note well it’s the refugees who make clear they are being discriminated against.ita not you people who wrongly claimed they are here to vote , they smell, they are criminals l, they are terrorists , they carrying virus ?

      • @ perhaps

You sound so dam ignorant bout discrimination. All of you just full a CHIT……you cannot pay public servants but you can take care of 900 AFRICANS….go figure

        • @perchance this is not 2009 to 2014 when in general the upp could not pay public servants and Baldwin was reminding persons that the public sector is bloated. Public servants have been paid not only on time by this admin but sometimes even earlier than need be. There was a system glitch recently (weekly paid on Fridays ) which was remedied and persons were paid the Monday.

          • @ Perhaps

true you can pay all public servants their overtime and that’s why there have been so many public servants picketing for nearly a year: clarevue, quarry workers, cbh, nurses for promised allowances, and on and on…….NEVER HAVE THERE BEEN SO MANY STRIKES under the UPP tenure. Government suppliers have not been paid for years. I really do not know which country you living in, but you PM and your minions not fooling anyone. The country is so broke, they need to chase all of you out of town cause I have never seen so much havoc in a country.
It is expected from an illegitimate government anyway.

    • Hey Vere, George Santos working? He is working on a bill to make AR-15 USA’s national gun. I read he already started his re-election campaign. Who would have thought that the US does not vet its reps. Anyway, the Cameroonians (some) have completed their Caribbean visit and they are on their way to the US with the same dreams you had and probably with more resources. Due to their willingness to take risks, I suspect those here and those in the US, will have more success than you have

      • @tenman…first things first. When you address Vere C. Edwards, in this forum, Nr. Hughes, please use your real, true name, stand and face me as a man, not as a chameleon nor a Mini da Moocher!

Next thing, I wouldn’t be able to stand in the same room with you with all of the rancid red_herrings you stash in your pocket, to mask the stench of Gaston and ABLP shit.

Now, until then you can go and fuck yourself with this🌵you dirty bitch.

  5. These people must be laughing at weak security of St. Kitts, thinking that the small island is not a real place.

    • The security in the US any better? How many hundred thousands have gotten to the US via some back door so far this year? What of the EU?

    • @Bilbo and laughing at weak Antigua for landing them with no Visa, hoteal money or onward ticket.

  6. What kind of criminals did the ALP let loose on Antigua. All of these people should be deported posthaste.

  7. It would be good to read the views from tenman, From the Sideline and the Gaston Browne ACOLYTES .

Anytime this particular subject/issue comes up they tend to go into hiding.

    STRANGE THAT …

    • … into the Africans that arrived here, the general public overwhelming voted for a public enquiry, and yet the ABLP government continues to ignore us.

  8. Send them BACK to Nigeria — that’s where they departed from. They were not at war in Nigeria. Let them find their way to the US from there. They don’t give a phuck that what they’re doing can ruin the island and its peoples standing the regional and international community.

They don’t appear to be law abiding people.

  9. Who is responsible for the regional and international security fiasco?
Someone must be responsible it did not just happen by chance.
The government of Antigua has cleared Marvelous Mike, the gg is yet to clear his government. Perhaps they are responsible….

  10. There’s no end to Gaston’s migrants, they have caused mockery and brought international embarrassment to Antigua and now to St Kitts.

Gaston was warned that his migrants should be returned to Nigeria, but the buffoon decided to keep them in Antigua and gave them the rights to work because many of them have degrees obtained from Gaston’s University!

He has not seen evidence of these degrees, but the buffoon made that claim to justify his and the Nigerian who works at the Ministry of Argiculture wrong doings with smuggled them into Antigua.

The only way and the sensible way forward is to return them to Nigeria.

The longer they remains in Antigua, the greater the risk to our tourists industry. Gaston migrants are criminals and not refugees and would be foolish to think of them as refugees.

They didn’t arrive in Antigua appearing às people escaping from tyranny and oppression.
Gaston female migrants are engaged in prostitution and his male are promoting scams.

    • @Ant4..evsr we can’t just send them (Cameroonians) back, they are claiming their life is at risk. We have international treatise that force us to take their statements seriously and investigate. It’s no accident that the us about a year ago declared the same treatment for Cameroon refugees as it extends to Ukrainians

      • @Tenman: Initially, they claimed that they were intransit travellers onroute to the US.
It was announced that they were only going to be in Antigua for two days…they two days have exceed four months.

There is no substantial evidence that they are Cameroonians, nor evidence that they were fleeing for their lives from tyranny and oppression.
It’s clear that they are not truthful and they would go to extreme lengths to achieve their purpose as seen when several of them took to the high season.

Additionally, they only started to claimed refugees status after ALP and that crooked Nigerian employee at the Ministry of Agriculture made them aware that was their best option.

If indeed, they are Cameroonians, which is doubtful, why didn’t they sought refuge in Nigeria, rather than taking 16 hours flight journey to an island that they have never heard of prior to the crooked Nigerian employee at the Ministry of Argiculture efforts with bringing them to Antigua?

You are reminded that the chief immigration officer publicly announced that the crooked Nigerian used government vehicle to taxi two of the Africans who was his “friend”.

An incredulous tale. How on earth did he know that his “friends ” were going to be on the flight? I think they should be a public inquiry into his background, starting with establishing his true name. If anyone is aware of his name that he is using in Antigua, please furnish the same, as well as a picture of him and will call for an inquiry into his background via Google. Antiguans should not allow Gaston’s migrants to continue to take us as fools.

It was also ALP who started and encouraged their nonsense that they have been descriminated against in Antigua.

  11. GB must go to St Kitts with a lawyer to look about his brother’s and sisters.
GB need to make arrangements to bury his brothers and sisters in St Kitts.
Take responsibility for your brothers and sisters Gadton.

  12. This is one of the residue of Bobol. Many Caribbean Leaders are going to turn on Gaston Browne. For he allowed those so called very rich Africans into Antigua. Then they tried to smuggle their ways out of Antigua to destinations unknown. What a tangled web, created by the Anansi Spider himself,Gaston Browne and Margaret “Picksy” Pamela Jones.

  13. The leaders and ministers from our Caribbean neighbours must be privately seething at what Gaston Browne has caused in the region by not explaining why he allowed this whole situation to arise.

St Kitt’s have now been reluctantly drawn in now with the escape of the trafficked Cameroonians.

An independent investigation will shed light on what really went on, especially for the safety and security for the whole Caribbean.

    WHAT A DAMN MESS …

  14. I wish to know their crime. Why are they been kept in a detention center in St kitts for a month today under inhumane conditions?.
    No proper food and medication.
Why the antiquarian been released and the cameroonians heavy guarded with arms
Why the last antiquarian escaped from the detention and now considered as a cameroonian?
It’s a crime to be a survivor of a tragedy accident?
I think is a crime to be a migrant in the caribean .
On daily basis thousands of migrant crossed from Brazil to the Darien gap all the way to USA, yet have never heard them been detained for months.

  15. I was just in the Bahamas, and the immigration officer gave me the hardest time to past their into the Bahamas, because i was a black man coming to the Bahamas with the “business” box checked on my immigration card. You can tell the officer was very suspicious of this, that the fact that a black man is actually coming to the Bahamas on business, how i knew that was his suspicion, because he actually called my AirBNB to make sure that i have accommodations and that i am actually in fact staying where I said I was on the immigration form. he held me there for almost 20 minutes while every other passenger were already gone through, and mind you i am coming from the USA as a US citizen, not that I was seeking special treatment, but the fact that he singled me out just because of a checked box, is telling. So how these Africans got into Antigua under those circumstances is very telling a s well. This is not about blame anymore, this fiasco just simply has to be fixed. This is a nightmare and no good thing will come of this, trust me. This thing is fraught with corruption and leave a stinking stench anywhere it goes, whether it be Antigua, St Kitts, Trinadad or any other place these people go, why, because you cannot use evil to do good, simple. I wish the nation of Antigua well, but I will be pulling back whatever investment I have in this wonderful island that I love. I know some would say good riddance, but this fiasco will continue to cause huge problems for Antigua. smdh!!!

    • @islanman26. I am in full agreement with you. I live in the UK, but I am a born Antigua. I have been in education close to three decades and was looking forward of returning to my native land, a land that ⁵ I love very deeply.

However, since the fiasco with Gaston’s migrants, I am considering selling my property in Antigua.

Gaston et al from the ALP is rapidly actively destroying our homeland. It’s a matter of time before we see total chaos on the streets of St John’s and villages.

I was speaking with an Antiguan recently and he too has expressed that he’s no longer impressed with Antigua.

I am now looking at the possibility of a Spanish villa, as I cannot think of anything worse of retirement with GB as PM.
