In only his second consecutive season competing in the FIA European Championship’s Euro RX3 category, Nicolas Geleyns pulled off a remarkable feat by securing third place in the final championship standings.

Heading into the decisive showdown of the 2025 season, Geleyns remained under pressure from Hungarian driver Samuel Kovacs. But after a difficult opening day, the driver from Antigua rallied impressively, clinching his third podium finish of the year by crossing the line in second place, just behind Rytis Gurklys.

Only fourth in the intermediate classification after the first day and the opening two qualifying heats, Geleyns raised his game on Sunday. He set the fastest overall time in Q3, then followed it up with second place in Q4, climbing to second in the standings ahead of the knockout rounds.

That momentum carried through to the finals, where the Volland Racing driver produced a top-level performance. Despite contact that damaged the rear axle of his Audi A1, nothing could prevent Geleyns from setting the fastest lap of the season’s closing round. In fact, across his six outings on track during the weekend, he clocked the quickest time on four occasions.

“In the semi-final, I made a simple but costly mistake: I ripped out the driveshaft and had to retire. My mechanics then did an exceptional job—within fifteen minutes everything was repaired and replaced. Without them, I would never have made it to the final. Thanks to their speed and expertise, I was able to continue, and I’m deeply grateful to them.”

In the final, Geleyns needed composure and sharp decision-making.

“The start was tough with a lot of wheelspin, so I chose to be cautious to avoid damaging the car. Then we started climbing back. Kovacs made a mistake at the entry to the dirt section, which allowed me to overtake him on the inside. We made contact, I spun 360 degrees, but I managed to catch the car. Unfortunately, his race ended there, which was a shame for him, but I was able to keep going and push hard to the finish.”

Even with a wounded car, Geleyns refused to give in.

“The contact with Kovacs damaged my rear axle, and the car wasn’t running straight anymore. Even so, I managed to set the fastest lap of the race, which is incredibly satisfying under those conditions. It wasn’t easy—on the last corner after the jump, I hit the wall. The car was completely unsettled, but it bounced back and I was able to carry on without losing too much time. In the end, I’m really happy to stand on the podium for the third time this season and to finish the championship in third place.”

That result fuels big ambitions for 2026.

“Next year, the goal is to return to Euro RX3, fight for the top step of the podium, and keep enjoying every moment.”

With this performance, Nicolas Geleyns wrapped up his season on an exceptionally promising note, proving he is a name to watch in the European RX3 ranks.
