Antigua and Barbuda and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on Japanese technology and private-sector expertise.
Information, Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy Minister Melford Nicholas met with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, in Japan on Monday.
During the approximately 50-minute meeting, Horii welcomed Nicholas and said Japan wants to deepen its relationship with Antigua and Barbuda amid increased high-level exchanges since the Japan-CARICOM Ministerial-Level Conference two years ago.
Nicholas thanked Japan for its assistance in several areas, including water management and disaster prevention.
The ministers also discussed regional developments and cooperation in international forums. They agreed to pursue closer collaboration while drawing on Japanese technology, expertise and private-sector capabilities.

Can the Minister update the general public on the impending roll out of number portability.
The mobile number portability rollout seem to have missed its targeted July start date, continuing a history of delays. The system—meant to let users switch between Flow, Digicel, and APUA Inet without changing numbers—remains unlaunched due to ongoing coordination challenges among competing providers. Coordination hurdles, technical adjustments, and a lack of smooth collaboration among competing telecom providers—Flow, Digicel, and APUA Inet seem to be delaying the launch which was announced in June to start in July 2026. Citizens are waiting and the nation deserve an update.

@al : well al it’s hard to say we are a semiliterate nation, but when we don’t know our constitution or civics or have any political ideology that lead us to vote to elect the ALP and especially a reckless young man like Gaston to office or even fool around nominating an inexperience person for opposition leader tells me that, look at what has been going on between the USA and Antigua that is all caused by Gaston, and we still voted for Gaston to remain as the country’s prime minister and now our punishment has been exacerbated.
