Ten-year-old George Freeland of the Better Chance Primary School and his teacher Michelle Ross dropped in at the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment’s Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.

They passed by to see Minister Molwyn Joseph and to say thank you for his prompt intervention which resulted in prescription eyeglasses for George.

Eyeglasses which are making a big difference in the young boy’s life.

It was about two years ago when George began having difficulties reading and seeing. His school work suffered. Then, about two school terms ago, he approached his teacher, revealing to her, “I can’t see.”

Immediately, Ms. Ross contacted the Ministry and both she and George were able to see the Health Minister who was instrumental in arranging a visit to the hospital for an eye exam and an early appointment at the Grays Farm Clinic where the ten-year-old was fitted for his new glasses.

In fact, George selected his own frame.

Today, as he shook hands with Minister Joseph, a beaming George Freeland – who has ambitions of becoming a scientist – can see clearly now. Thanks to an alert teacher and a proactive Minister of Health.

“Come back and see me some time,” a delighted Molwyn Joseph told George as he left the office. The Minister added that is always wonderful when one’s actions can positively impact a life.

The Better Chance Primary School is privately owned and is located in the Point area, in lower St. Georges Street.

  1. And all the UPP could talk about was to remove the ABST from glasses. Please wheel and come again in 20 years.

  2. Congrats to all involved. I wish the young man much continued success and hopes tht he will pay it forward some day.

  3. Wow!! How long Molwyn Joseph has been in office. His first pair of glasses, sure took him long time for one pair of glasses. Spare me the Asprin!!!

  4. What is this really? Campaigning still going on? Who set up the Gray’s Farm Clinic? I guess from the comment above the Minister paid for the glasses? Gimme a break.
Please address the stench in St. John’s, then wheel and come again.

  5. You people so sink and bad minded in y’all attitude and comments. A lot of people have benefited from this program just because there is no big media fanfare. Y’all should take a page from that little boy’s book and learn to be greatful. What a buch of losers you upp supporters are.

  6. Handsome young fella. Focus on your studies, do your homework and READ READ READ. A world of opportunities await you beyond your wildest imagination. Stay focused, but PLAY too.
