The American visitor who discovered skeletal remains in Cades Bay on Sunday has said she is deeply affected by cases of missing women.
Dr Carolina Weaver told a local radio station today that she felt “very sad” after hearing the story about missing people here.
“It always bothered me about some of these missing women or even men,” she said.
Dr Weaver was on a hike when she made the shocking discovery.
She revealed in an interview with Observer Radio that she also took a keen interest in the Natalie Holloway case. The Eighteen-year-old never showed up for a flight home from Aruba on May 30, 2005.
“That Natalie Holloway case has affected me for a very long time. I refuse to go to Aruba and I kinda campaigned about that for a long time,” she said.
Since the discovery, at least one other piece of bone has been found as lawmen continue their investigation.
They are sending samples to a neighboring Caribbean island in an effort to identify the body.
A pair of black female slippers was also found with the remains. The police are working with families of missing people to help identify the remains.

May I say: Domestic or violence of any kind is disturbing. I made the comment- yes, I am the female tourist. I did not intend to be patronizing in any way. I went on vacation to try to forget some of my own struggles and to rest. I work a lot. I was asked how I felt. I was honest. I was also told how many men and women were missing from Antigua and being searched for. I was surprised. I come to Antigua once or twice a year, as able. I grew up in the Caribbean from age 5. I do not feel at home in the United States and never have. I do not feel like I fit in there, since Caribbean culture is my home culture. I myself have been no stranger to abuse or violence from others. So; please do not stereo-type me. We are all human.
I have worked hard my entire life in careers helping others. I am not a Doctor but an RN. I was not happy with the Observer showing remains. We had made it clear we believed that would be offensive and highly disappointed the reporter went against our mutual agreement. My heart goes out to those anxious family members affected and in mourning. I cannot imagine the depths of their pain, feelings of despair and loss. May love, light and memories warm them over time.
