(PRESS RELEASE)

The Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB) in accordance with the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Act, No. 12 of 2008 hereby informs the general public that the insecticide (locally known as 3-steps or Tres Pasitos), which is often used as a rodenticide and contains aldicarb as its active ingredient, for which there is no antidote, is highly toxic to humans and pets and has been banned.

The general public is reminded that the illegal importation, sale and use of banned or unregistered chemical products is an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $25,000.00 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or a combination of both. The general public is also reminded that all pesticides and toxic chemicals imported into Antigua and Barbuda must be registered prior to importation into the country. To avoid detention, confiscation of consignments and/or prosecution all importers are urged to consult with the PTCCB to ensure that all pesticides and toxic chemicals they are desirous of importing are duly registered by the Board.
