Stop Carrying Politics To Work- Marhsall

The Minister responsible for the Public Service Samantha Marshall has told senior and other public servants that 2019 is the year that they must increase productivity.

Marhsall who is also Social Transformation Minister issued the “frank” missive to public servants in an emotionally charged presentation on the 2019 national budget.

She said the government has been good to public servants, making reference to the recent back pay and interim pay increase.

She told public servants that the workplace is no place for politics but added “those who support this government you have an additional responsibility on you to perform. You must make your government look good.”

“You are not sent there to bully anybody you are not sent there to be bullied but you’re sent to work and work you must,” Marshall told the Lower House to loud applause from fellow legislators.

“We create opportunities for employment, not for you to clock in and then clock out,” she said.

The minister said she wants to see greater productivity from public servants at all levels.

“Productivity is what your country needs and before aligning with any political party you should truly align with your country and you should want to see your country excel and be at the top,” Marshall told her nationally televised budget debate contribution.

“We must stop carrying politics to work, its a distraction,” she insisted.

The minister said “this year is the year we expect you to know what it is to be productive and what it is to perform.”

“We moving forward and we not looking back. We cannot complain about everything.

I want to say to the managerial staff that you all have to step up. The more that is expected is the more that will be demanded,” the minister told the Lower House.

  1. So you give me something that is rightfully mine after years of delay and you make it come across as if you are doing me a favor for which I must be grateful! The world has really gone mad!

  2. Im sorry but the woman is right. Even a job as a civil servant is a privaledge and not a right. It should be an honour to serve your country and get a paycheck on top of that. So if you think its your right as an Antiguan to sit on you butt and do nothing while getting a paycheck then you are dead wrong. You are pulling your country down, showing a bad example to the youth, failing your personal growth, and doing absolutely nothing good. So it doesnt matter who you voted for, do a good job for your personal pride and accomplishment. None body nah send you out dey fu kill out yahself but just make some kind of effort to do your best and make your country the best.

    • Oh yes and the TREASURY DEPARTMENT UPSTAIRS tek de cake with shitty customer service. If you want to feel neglected, dehumanized, and treated as invisible, go the the Treasury on High Street, walk to the back and go upstairs and what a “treat” you will be in for. This is 2019, the shitty customer service HAS GOT TO STOP!! I got wayyy better customer service at the convenience store for the gas station beside Ramco building than I did at government departments. Imagine that!! [GASP]

  3. Now for a slight criticism…Ms Marshall you said many other things good but please dont take credit for backpay. You can take credit for the pay raise though.

  4. Very spirited presentation, one where the presenter was clearly on a mission to help move us forward. Felt pride listening and watching her as I sat i parliament. Reminded me in a way, yesterday, of seeing our island girls come into the harbor

  5. I agree 100% with MP Marshall. Finally we have a MP that is speaking common sense and who is standing up tax payers and private sector people. MP Marshall would be a great next Prime Minister, but I still really like PM Browne. Thank you to PM Browne for allowing MP Marshall to serve

People in the private sector with normal jobs are paying all these Antigua government workers via taxes and they need to perform better. The civil servants in Antigua government need to ramp up their game and need to start thinking globally and internationally – they need to work harder just like we folks do in the private industry.

Again, thank you MP Marshall for stating the obvious and giving these government workers a dose of common sense. If they don’t work to work properly, then just fire them because there are many Antiguans that would love to apply for their jobs.

  6. What were they doing all the time ‘dragging their feet’ Samantha Marshall?? That is why the country is in the state it is under your leadership. And now you asking for public servants to increased productivity for 2019.

  7. That is all most political appointees are put in government jobs to do, ‘Bullied the competent workers’. Some of them love to say, “Are foo me government in power now and we run thing.”

    • Is this a compliment, or criticism of Ms. Marshall? The MP was absolutely on spot with what actually takes place in the Public Service under Red and Blue administrations. Appointees of the Party In Power have this awful mindset that it’s their time now. This negative attitude, as outlined by MP Marshall, must come to an end NOW!

  8. SO THE MINISTER IS AT WORK AND ALK SHE IS TALKING ABOUT IS POLITICS HMMMMMM DOES THIS SEEMS HYPOCRITICAL TO ANYONE?

SO THE MINISTER AND HER COLLEAGUES CAN GO TO WORK AND ENGAGE IN POLITICAL BANTER AND ITS QUITE FINE BUT HER SUBORDINATES OUGHT NOT TO DO IT.

    THIS IS STRANGE….
