Minister of Sports Daryll Matthew has congratulated  Antiguan fast bowler, Javier Spencer on his selection to the Guyana Jaguars Franchise Team in the Cricket West Indies Professional Cricket League.

During the Cricket West Indies draft process held yesterday, Spencer was selected as one of the Guyana Jaguars’ overseas players, and will turn out for the franchise in the 2018 – 2019 regional cricket season.
Minister Matthew says that he is exceptionally pleased for eighteen-year-old Spencer, as having toured South Africa and Zimbabwe last year on preparatory tours with the West Indies Under 19’s, he did not make the final selection for the regional team’s defence of their ICC Trophy, held in New Zealand in January.
“This gives Javier an early opportunity to put behind him any disappointments he may have felt when he was not selected to the Youth World Cup squad. It shows that his skills and work ethic have been noted by regional coaches, and to be selected by a team outside of your home base, is a major statement”, Matthews concluded.
Spencer is a Left Arm Medium Fast Bowler, hailing from John Hughes and educated at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, and currently plies his trade with the PIC Insurance Liberta Sports Club. He is still eligible to play another year of West Indies Under 19 cricket.
During the draft, another Antiguan, leg-spinning all-rounder, Hayden Walsh Jr. was retained by the Barbados Pride Franchise. having spent two previous years with them.
