The new Festivals Minister called on the country to embrace change as he announced a reshuffling of events for this years’ Carnival.
Minister Daryl Matthew announced the changes at the launch of Carnival 2018 on Saturday.
He revealed the changes will start on the Thursday night with the Calypso Monarch competition, which has traditionally taken place on Sunday.
“Friday night is gonna be the LIAT Caribbean Melting Pot and Saturday night during Carnival we are going to have our Panorama followed by Soca Monarch on Sunday going straight into Jouvert, Carnival Monday and Tuesday on the road.”, he explained.
Matthew sought to justify the changes by explaining it “gives someone who may be visiting Antigua & Barbuda for Carnival an opportunity to be partying all day, all night from the time they land on Thursday right down until Last Lap”
“The changes may not always be what we desire at the point in time, but rest assured that the changes are for the betterment of our festival” he assured.

You complain about everything. It high time the schedul for Carnival change.
I think it makes sense. Soca monarch has become the biggest show for carnival, then Panorama. So you would already hype from soca monarch right onto the road for jouvert. We Antiguans and Barbudans people don’t like change, but change is good sometimes.
Hope the name carnival after u lol alp is just the best ….one day it will crumble

A very progressive move. Next year we want carnival to be extended until the Wednesday. So there would be two jouvert mornings. I will compensate all merchants and business owners including the PM who might become affected by this move.
The reason advanced for the change sounds very shallow. But then again what can one expect if they are living in a Cartoon Country?
I belive children cranival should move from the week day to a sunday as before many parents have to work and them child /children r jumping without mom or dad seeing them in their costume
