Ricky Skerritt, the St Kitts and Nevis-native appointed as head of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority has resigned.

He resigned for “personal reasons” after being appointed by then Tourism Minister Asot Michael in October 2016.

Skerrit resigned a little over one year into his two-year contract.

A source tells Antigua News Room that discussions are ongoing about a replacement.

A former, tourism minister of St Kitts and Nevis, the appointment of Skerritt was controversial. The opposition took the position that it would be a waste of time to hire Skerrit merely to sit on a board.

He was also appointed at a time when residents were expressing concern over the number of non-nationals occupying high-profile government positions.

We tried to reach Skerrit on his mobile but did not get him.
