Businessman Rey John is threatening to sue Acting Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney if he does not make good for the recent airport fiasco.

Lawyers for John wrote to the acting top cop demanding a written apology and cost for the damage he suffered while he attempted to lawfully leave Antigua recently.

On September 1, the businessman was stopped at the airport by a police officer even though he had permission to travel. He was eventually allowed to leave.

John has a gun matter in the court and is on bail but the police officer claimed not to have known that he was given special permission.

Rodney has 14 days starting September 3rd to respond to the letter or face legal action.

According to lawyers to John, “the actions of [Sergeant] Bowen (who claimed that you authorised such actions) are clearly a breach of our client’s constitutional rights to freely move in and out of Antigua.

The detention (however brief) was unlawful and tantamount to false imprisonment,” the attorney wrote

The businessman not to be mistaken for police officer Ray John is on $35,000 bail awaiting trial for a shooting that left one man injured on July 27, 2018.
