Pastor Clinton Bynoe has revealed that a Barbuda mother exposed her private parts to stadium staff during an altercation on Tuesday.
Bynoe told state media he was “saddened” that it came to that point.
“I was disappointed to see a mother…what she did was indecent and out of place in exposing her private parts. I didnt think that was necessary,” the pastor who has been assisting the Barbudans said.
He said one source of the conflict was with one particular family demanding that they receive relief items in higher quantities.
“I personally had the incident with them where you would have to give a certain amount of water but they thought that wasn’t enough. So it was all about they getting more than the rest,” the preacher said.
“I believe that they got to a point where they just sat back and said this was sent to us and no matter what, we don’t care about anybody else, but just need to use it up,” Bynoe added.
He said the differences should have been better managed but certain individuals at the stadium “made it personal with stadium management and that is why it got out of hand.”
Bynoe said the stadium staff did their best to cater to the evacuees but hinted that they did little to help themselves.
“Yes they went through a disaster but when we go through a disaster and others are helping us we have to get to a point where we want to help yourself also,” he said.
That incident coupled with an alleged laundry room altercation led stadium staff to call in sick on Tuesday.
The woman behind the laundry room fracas, Mikeika Simon said evacuees were unfairly being denied access to the laundry services.
“The washroom has been closed since Thursday and we have a lot of children up here that need their clothes to be washed. I cannot be washing with a bath and all those stuff. My big problem is telling them open the washroom,” Simon said
The media reported that confrontation was over the Barbudans refusal to leave the stadium but Simon said they are ready to go.
“If they want us out of the stadium we don’t have a problem to leave but we cannot be leaving and going out on the street without anywhere to go. We cannot go on the street with our children,” she argued.
Officials say alternate shelters will be ready for Barbudans no later than Saturday.
