The entity responsible for the rehabilitation of Sir George Walter Highway and Friars Hill Road is urging property owners and businesses to remove all advertisement billboards and signs along the roadside of the two corridors.

The order for the removal of the billboards and marketing paraphernalia by the Development Control Authority was issued on Tuesday.

“Failure to comply with the orders will result in the advertisements being forcefully removed and destroyed by the DCA,” the ministry said in a statement.

Advertisements that line the road ways are viewed as an impairment to the planned road expansion works associated the Government of Antigua and Barbuda Road Infrastructure rehabilitation project.

Sir George Water Highway approximately 2.4miles and Friars Hill Road approximately 3 miles are being rehabilitated through a design and build arrangement.

“Taking into account a large amount of businesses operating along Friars Hill Road alone, PIMU deems it fit to notify businesses of the plan for forceful removal of billboard advertisements before the DCA moves ahead with its dismantling plans,” the release stated.
