The Ministry of Works says it responded rapidly to address the concerns of the workers at the General Post Office Headquarters.

These concerns surround specific Occupational Health and Safety issues which led to work stoppage.

The initial inspection of the building was led by Minister of Works the Lennox Weston and a senior team from the Ministry of Works.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works Clarence Pilgrim confirmed that the ministry has put a coordinated two-tier plan in place.

Mr. Pilgrim noted that since the working day would be shortened, the repairs will be effected in the afternoons after 12 pm.

The location of a temporary home within the city environs is proving to be a challenge.

“We are presently looking at 2 buildings and if successful we will have to make the necessary arrangements. These buildings are privately owned so we would need the permission of the owners to move forward”, Pilgrim stated.

“The Ministry of Works assures the general public that we will make every effort to have the operations of the General Post Office return to normal at the earliest opportunity.,” a press release said.

  1. Are you saying they haven’t used this week to get in there and fix the problems? What is wrong with these people? Dumb and dumber. And the public’s inconvenience be damned. SMH.

  2. The Postal Office is an old building. Did anyone done an asbestos assessment to see if the structure has any expose asbestos?? The entire building is going need major repairs, so Public Work’s need to get working. I don’t blame the staffs in striking for better working environment conditions.

  3. The postal service is a waste of time and money, it should be shut down. It’s 2018, anybody ever heard of email and online bill pay? There is also DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.

Time to close this money losing government postal service down and sell the building to the highest bidder.

  4. Wow! I wonder whose coffers we are going to fill now! We definitely are going to need money for the monthly exorbitant rent! Don’t forget Social security will again rise from January. Did I hear Medical Benefits will increase as well! Phew! Economic Power house!
