Minister dismayed over Air Traffic Control Tower complaints

The Minister with responsibility for Aviation today expressed his “dismay” with the contents of an article appearing on page 4 of yesterday’s Observer Newspaper.

The one-sided publication was captioned: Air Traffic Controllers cry out for reliefan air traffic controller lamented the state of the working conditions and equipment at the ATC Tower at the V.C. Bird International Airport.

Aviation Minister Sir Robin Yearwood pointed out that all ATC controllers can witness the new tower being constructed next to the existing tower, and have all been told in separate meetings of the quantum of resources already spent and committed to improving the equipment, the capabilities and the working conditions of ATC workers at the airport tower.

The Minister told the Cabinet that a meeting with ATC workers is planned for Tuesday, next week, and that any workers who are uninformed will surely be made knowledgeable.

The Minister says he is certain that the ATC worker—who was quoted as speaking during the ABWU/TUC Rally on Labour Day, at the ABWU Headquarters on Newgate Street—is aware of the improvements that are forthcoming.

  1. “…all ATC controllers can witness the new tower being constructed next to the existing tower, and have all been told in separate meetings…”

WELL MAYBE SOME PEOPLE CANNOT SEE THE TOWER FOR WHATEVER REASON. NOT EVERYONE HAS PERFECT 20/20 VISION YOU KNOW.

  2. The Cheif of Staff and the minister seem not to have any clue of what is happening at VC Bird. Because if they did, they would have known that the building being constructed at the southern Base of the current tower is a temporary tower to house the controllers, while the new cab which is supposingly being constructed in Canada onces all payments are made , is being put in placed on the 36 year old tower base. I wonder what information the minister will be giving. And he don’t even have a clue???

  3. This is worrying for passengers flying in. Lots of bickering going on and no one controlling the tower 😱😳oh god !

  4. Everyone knows Observer has their Objective and they have their Ax to grind. So they will print anything bad that someone has to say about this government without first checking out the story. That is the journalism they practice. he said she said and that is free speech and we just print it.
