Prime Minister, Gaston Browne called Education Minister, Michael Browne’s concerns over the government’s deal with Global Ports nonsense.
The Education Minister wrote a letter to Cabinet some time ago outlining his concerns.
The document was reportedly rejected, and the Minister was asked to give a verbal presentation of his concerns to his colleagues.
“When he was actually presenting the paper verbally, we were able to point out, certainly I was chairing the meeting, I said to him that he wasn’t making any sense in the sense that you can’t just look at how much monies, how much revenue Global Ports would be generating and not look at the other hand, the expenses associated with the generation of those sales”, Prime Minster Browne told state media.
“We allow opinions, diverse opinions to thrive within the Cabinet so I hold no ill will towards him but at the same time I have an obligation to speak to the fact that his document was extremely flawed”, he added.
“His document suggested that, you know, we were moving away from our core philosophy of empowering the people and we’re selling out. Utter nonsense! First of all, we never sold anything, the port facilities remain in the ownership of the Government and People of Antigua & Barbuda”, the Prime Minister explained.
“Another area that he spoke about, for example, as I recall, it was an issue of a reverse mortgage. In fact, the analogy was just so inappropriate”, he asserted.
“The reality is, the Minister, I mean he is a smart young man, he is a trained mind, obviously and intellectual, but I have to tell you insofar as finance is concerned, he’s an intellectual novice”, Prime Minister Browne concluded.

all this pm good for is name calling. Micheal never claim to be a finance wiz kid. He made other claims but thats a different story. The current pm presided over a 100 million surplus in one year and then turn that into a 400 million deficit the following year. Harold lovell is a lawyer and was a better finance minister. He had no CIP and got a financial meltdown to contend with. The pm flawed logic would suggest only a Dr could run the hospital.
Michael Browne may be a lot of things including not averse to following the “family” trend and enriching himself, BUT, he is far more educated and did a brilliant job with his presentation which was well laid out, easy to understand and contained charts to demonstrate his points…Those with the lesser education should have had no problem understanding the very valid points MB made but one would have to assume this presentation to Cabinet besides being factual just did not suit the PM’s ridiculous giveaway to GPH.
Did he actually get to present it? I thought GB just shut him down. The truth was inconvenient.

I want to know, based on some previous comments, when an individual is a member of a political party, runs in an elections, wins and that individual and his party form the government, does that person now becomes opinion less in parliament, voiceless and a yes man?
