Sports Minister Daryl Matthew says work will resume on Monday on the project to upgrade the YASCO Sports Complex.

Work on the project stopped for several weeks now, raising concern among athletes.

Matthew says there are two main reasons for the delay.

“The persons doing the production of the track in the United States needed some additional information.”

Matthew said the information has since been provided.

“And the grounds have been we so you cannot put heavy equipment on it,” he added.

Co Williams, the contractors undertaking the works have indicated that they are resuming on Monday 7, according to Matthew.

He said the revised completion for timeline is March 12, 2019 that’s one year later from the original completion date.

  1. When we see the track at YASCO finally complete and up to standard we will know that dreams can come true if you wait long enough.

  2. I know we want to keep things in town so that it is accessible to many people. But these venues are better concentrated in one area that has enough parking space. And to me the Sir Vivian Richard Cricket Stadium and surroundings lend itself for many other sporting venues to be established. There are fast amounts of lands available there. And all can utilize the very same parking arrangement. And it is on a very popular bus route. We need to think long term. We can also built the so needed Olympic pool there. And a track for jogging and walking. Many people are already utilizing the road there. Which is becoming quite dangerous as the traffic is also increasing and the place is dark at night. Why could be spend hundreds of thousands for the race track that is only used sporadically.

  3. It’s good that we are getting the track re-do or a new one but what about stands to facilitate the patrons? Am not hearing anything that! Just sometime last year I believe Nevis got a new track, St Kitts has held the CARIFTA games already, what has Antigua hosted since the time of the Former Prime Minister giving us our first Medal!!!! What the sense of fixing Yasco and we doing have the parking space plus seating capacity for our visiting people wishing to attend the games and our locals are welll! Am praying for that day when Antigua can hold an international Meet! Hope the Govermment the Sports Personnel’s are looking on the bigger stage and not just the local!
