In order to foster an environment of inclusiveness the government of Antigua and Barbuda through the Parliamentary Select Committee will be hosting a Public Consultation on the Decriminalisation of Marijuana via the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill 2017 on Tuesday 23rd January at 10:30am.
Attorney General the Steadroy Cutie Benjamin Chairman of the Select Committee and also mover of the Bill is extending an open invitation to the citizenry of Antigua and Barbuda to be part of the Consultation which will be held at the parliament building.
Benjamin says that all Rastafarians, community groups, NGO’s, Churches, The Medical Association, Teachers Union, Bar Association, National Youth Council, Substance Abuse Department among other organizations are invited to attend and participate in the discussions.
The Decriminalisation of Marijuana via the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill 2017 had its first reading in parliament on December 28th; it was at that time the bill sent to the Select Committee for further consultation with the Public.
Previous consultations were held in 2017, but nevertheless, the Attorney General agreed that more discussion will be of great benefit to the people in understanding the purpose of the decision being made.

It’s not the legalizing but it’s the use of it.. where there is drugs there is guns, there is crime, there is abuse.. There are great benefits of this drug but the people need help. they abuse the use. Some get addicted and look at them in society
I will agree to one thing in a negative light when it comes to the use of marijuana. Everyone who smokes it does not react the same. Some people may become very quiet and get lost in their own little world (Meditation, In deep thought or falling asleep). Some people get very loud especially if they have been smoking and consuming alcohol at the same time. Some people like myself most often you would’nt even know that I smoke if u don’t smell it. So I guess it all depends on how u handle it which make a good or bad impression on marijuana…On another note however Weed is no where close to being as dangerous as alcohol which is sold legally in stores. I can tell you while under the influence of alcohol a person can loose control of his/her self in comparison to a person who smokes weed. being under the influence of alcohol people tend to speak their minds which most often does not end well. You may end up feeling like u are the best driver in the world which most often ends with a tragic or life threatening accident. alcohol is liquid courage in a bottle which is not good for your liver and It makes u loose total control of yourself. Weed can make u feel a lil sleepy or sometimes hyper especially when consuming alcohol with it but its no where close to being as dangerous as alcohol so weed needs to be legalized in my opinion… LEGALIZE IT!!
If they can have a carnival fete named LOL( Lots of Liquor) where is basically encouraging party goers to drink until they stupid its better if they legalize weed cause alcohol and cigarettes are wayyyyyyyyyyy more dangerous to the body anyway.
lol why don’t we all just made weed cake and be alright instead of smoking it. smoke itself in the body is bad for the lungs.. we need oxygen not poluted air in our body…
