NODS and Japanese officials sign off on donations

The Japanese government has come to the aid of Antigua and Barbuda by providing 36 thousand US dollars worth of emergency relief supplies on the request of the Antiguan government.

The representative of the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Tetsuhiro Ike made the presentation Friday at the VC Bird International Airport.

Among the supplies are 30 sleeping tents, 180 sleeping pads, 10 plastic sheeting, 10 water filters and 250 foldable tanks.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Anthony Liverpool says the supplies will go a long way in helping NODS respond to the needs of Barbuda, following the passage of Hurricane Irma.

Director of NODS Philmore Mullin was appreciative of the assistance received from the Japanese government.

The JICA Resident Representative notes that the government and people of Japan hope for a speedy recovery for Barbuda and are confident of deeper ties between Antigua and Barbuda and Japan.

  2. Nice gift, but for a country as large as Japan, $39,000, 180 sleeping bags, some plastic sheeting, just seems………small.
Oh well, I guess it is the thought that counts
