The Interpol has issued a Red Corner notice against absconding billionaire Mehul Choksi, who is accused of cheating state-run Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs 13,000 crore in alleged collusion with his nephew Nirav Modi, officials said Thursday.

The international police cooperation agency has issued the notice against Choksi Wednesday on the request of the CBI rejecting his contentions of being persecuted by Indian agencies and the case being political in nature, they said.

A Red Corner Notice is a kind of international arrest warrant where Lyon-based Interpol asks its member countries to arrest or detain a fugitive, wanted by another member country, if he is detected in their respective jurisdictions.

Choksi, 59, Managing Director of Gitanjali Gems Ltd, who escaped in January this year along with his nephew Nirav Modi, his wife Ami Modi and brother Nishal Modi, has taken citizenship of Antigua.

“The Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Mehul Choksi on the request of the CBI,” CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said.

Choksi had challenged the CBI application seeking issuance of Red Corner Notice against him calling the case a result of political conspiracy, sources said.

  1. Is Choksi arrested yet?

If he is not arrested what will happen?

Back to parliament again to make another room at the base a jail……

    • Choksi is innocent, if you do research you will see that he supported the opposition party and now the ruling party wants to put him in jail. Antigua should not send him to India. He is a full Antigua citizen and he deserves my protection.

Sure, if somebody is really a criminal, then they can be sent back to the country that has charged them. But if the ‘crime’ is political in nature, then Antigua should protect our citizens 100%.

Maybe it is Choksi today, but it could be you tomorrow.

  2. Of market failures and coincidence in abbreviations CBI Central Bureau of Investigation (India) and Citizenship by Investment.

  3. Months after claiming they will get one, they have finally convinced Interpol to issue one. There were the same persons in India who gave our CIP unit the all clear during the due diligence (late 2017) process. Now if things were as clear as they claimed, getting this warrant months ago, would have prevented him from leaving the US and coming to A&B, after he spent months in the US. Anyway the legal process is at work, time will show how this cookie crumbles. These we

    • Antigua’s CIP program is very good and very ethical – I 100% support our CIP program.

Look at how many criminals in the USA have green cards. The USA has more criminals per capita than Antigua will ever have.

      • Yep, best to ignore those among us handicaped by self hatred. They will hail programs outside A&B which are not transparent yet cuss their own which is not only transparent but better (eg better due dilligence checks )

  4. Interpol is one of the most corrupt global government agencies in the world. Just look at how they let China kidnap the former head of Interpol, without even a blink of an eye. Antigua cannot let these global government agencies bully our law and order or our small nation.

Antigua must protect Choksi because he is a full and legitimate citizen of Antigua. He is innocent also.
