Trade Minister Paul Chet Greene as told fellow trade ministers in Caricom that they should not overlook criticisms of the regional body.

Greene was at the time chairing a meeting of trade ministers ongoing in Guyana.

“Therefore, we must not overlook the criticisms of the CSME including calls to relook its implementation agenda, to determine the CSME’s effectiveness as part of the response to the socio-economic challenges facing the region,” he told the opening ceremony.

As he opened the meeting Greene said “the time for deliberate, precise and impactful action is now, the Community demands it.”

The Council for Trade and Economic Development is responsible to “promote the development and oversee the operation of the CSME”.

“Therefore, we must deliberate prudently on all the matters and provide clear recommendations for follow up actions,” Greene said.

Based on the Agenda, many of the items relate to the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and the Economy (CSME).

“This Council is being called upon to reflect on the recommendations to ensure collective, responsive and timely action both at the regional and national levels to address the CSME implementation gaps,” he added.
