The government says measures are being put in place to ensure safer streets and a cleaner city for carnival and beyond.
An official from National Solid Waste Management (NSWM) will join the St. John’s Development Corporation (SJDC) staff to ensure a cleaner City of St. John’s going forward, according to a recent decision of the Cabinet.
“The administration is determined to ensure that St. John’s will be in a state of readiness to receive nationals and visitors, especially during the Carnival season 2018. During the Carnival season, CBH workers will continue to ensure that the inner city is kept clean and safe.”
The Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force will also begin “an intense campaign” on Monday, July 23, 2018, to encourage safe driving and providing anti-theft tips to car owners and to homeowners during the Carnival Season.
“The Police will intensify their public presence and make other kinds of plainclothes investigation to nab criminals,” the government said.
It is also expected that a safety and emergency plan will be put in place during the Carnival season involving a variety of health professionals, working alongside the Police and the military.

  1. Let’s think long term also, and invest in a central sewage system for the city, rebuild the sidewalks properly, with thought for handicap and more policing to ensure that vehicles don’t park on the sidewalk

We can also put in more garbage receptacles. The drain the divides Tanner Street can be covered and in that platform we place provision for vending.

It can be done, we just have to plan properly to have the money and execute the plan properly.

    • If only. A central sewage system requires sufficient water to keep everything moving, etc. Not going to happen.

  2. They must be thankful that the govt and it’s statutory corporation does this duty, because if they had owed them like how they owe participants and service providers for carnival, it would be dirty.

  3. Does the festival minister have any peesonal interests in the show of July 31 in the ARG?
