GG Welcomes Sailing Programme For Disabled

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams has welcomed a programme
which offers the persons with disabilities the opportunity for social interaction and outdoor activity.

The programme is known as sailability. Speaking at the official opening of the new dock for Sailability at the National Sailing Academy on Sunday the Governor General commended Bob Bailey and his team for the work that they have been doing with the differently abled in Antigua and Barbuda.

 
Before unfurling the flag to declare the dock open, the Governor General praised the Academy on its attainment as a Centre of Excellence for Sailing and stated that the work of the Academy was serving to encourage the differently abled to have an active lifestyle as well as to develop sailing skills and competencies.


Sir Rodney commended Elizabeth Jordan, the President of the National Sailing Academy, for her work in youth development, particularly in the areas of swimming and sailing. The Governor General also applauded the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Jumby Bay Fund for contributing to the Centre’s operations for the past two years. 


During the ceremony, Ms. Elizabeth Jordan welcomed the gathering to the Centre, Mr. Bob Bailey, President of Sailability provided a history of the formation and work of Sailability and Sports Minister, the Hon. Daryl Matthew reaffirmed the support of Government for Sailability and its programmes. 

A plaque, in honour of the late Mrs Emelda Wade-Carbon, co-founder of Sailability was unveiled by Mrs. Suzanne Samuel-Lake, Administrative Secretary for Health Institutions in the Ministry of Health, Environment and Wellness.
