Free WiFi for cruise passengers

The Ministry of Tourism through the St. John’s Development Corporation has partnered with telecommunications provider Digicel to provide free wi-fi access to all cruise passengers visiting at the Heritage Quay Pier for the 2018/2019 Winter Tourist Season.

There will be free full Wi-fi coverage of the Heritage Quay beginning from the edge of the dock through the main corridor of shops and businesses up to Thames Street.

According to Minister of Tourism and Investment the Hon. Charles Fernandez, “the provision of free wi-fi access to our visitors from the cruise vessels is a major addition to our tourism offering as technology allows for not only ensured contact with family and friends back home but for real-time updates and the sharing of visual elements our beautiful destination”.

The Tourism Minister continued that “this venture should be looked upon as a major marketing thrust and we sincerely thank Digicel for coming on board with their professional service as an invaluable partner”.

A total of 10 access points provide a mesh coverage of the area, meaning users are able to browse continuously in any area of the quay without losing access. These access points can support upto 300 persons each, which will allow the many cruise ship passengers to browseand communicate with family and friends.

Merchants within the area are being encouraged to use the opportunity to advertise their products and services through the medium.

  1. Great but i have to pay a high bill monthly for getting nothing most of the time this life aint fair one bit……

  2. Antigua and Barbuda should have Island-wide free WiFi service. The new technology of WiFi allows for very far coverage at a cheap price. Our geography is small enough to allow this to happen.

    Singapore has free WiFI for all their citizens on their island, we should do the same.
