Firemen responded to a fire in the Sutherlands community yesterday.

At 8:45 pm last evening, the police and the All Saints Fire Department were called on scene to extinguish a fire of an abandoned dwelling house. The fire department arrived took approximately half hour to suppress the fire.

The fire damaged the inside of an abandoned wall house usually occupied by a vagrant. However, the vagrant was not in the house at the time of the fire.

“There was some window and spouting damage, but the fire was quickly brought under control,” said Fire Chief Elvis Weaver.

The house adjacent also got minor damage by the blaze said the fire chief.

“Some windows got damaged, some windows got a bit burnt, but the most important thing is was that we spoke with the owner of the house and she was not hurt.”

The police are still investigating the incident but preliminary investigations showed no conclusive evidence indicating any malicious intent resulting in the eventual fire.
