(PRESS RELEASE)

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda Fire Brigade is commending the employees who work in the State Insurance Building located at the corner of Long and Thames Streets in how they conducted the evacuation of the building on Tuesday morning when the fire alarm was sounded after an employee reported smelling smoke.

The building which houses several government departments including the Labour and Immigration Departments was evacuated in an orderly fashion with workers congregating at the designated locations and Church and Long Streets.

Two fire engines responded to the alarms. According to officials from the Fire Department, nothing was found even after a primary and secondary search of all floors and rooms was conducted. However, the building’s maintenance was called to do a check of all the air handler rooms.

When the all-clear was given for the workers to re-enter the building, normal work resumed for the rest of the day.

  1. Only a matter of time before something happens. God forbid. Elevator being stuck constantly to smell of fire. That building is poorly kept and workers and the building owners should share responsibility. Lazy workers with a no care attitude in that building and they’re rude.
