Education Ministry Focuses on Raising Competency of Teachers

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology says among its priorities this new school year is raising the competency of its teachers.

Director of Education, Clare Browne, says attention will be given to mathematics teachers, in an effort to boost passes among students in the subject area.

“Math is an area that we must focus on, and so we want to spend a lot of time building capacity among our teachers,” Mr. Browne stated. He added that the single most important factor in ensuring high student outcomes is the classroom teacher.

Mr. Browne said student and student learning are at the core of the education system and the ministry will spare no effort in ensuring that students perform at their optimum.

“The bottom line is to get students to perform at their optimum. Inclusion is what we run, so we want all our students to be successful. In order for that to happen, we must build capacity among the teaching force,” the director declared.

“Enabling students, equipping teachers, promoting academic success and social wellness,” is the theme adopted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the 2018/2019 academic year.

  1. You can host workshops, send them to classes and a lot of other things, the fact remains that SOME teachers are lazy and unmotivated. My son attends the AGS he has yet to get any Math homework or do any substantial classwork. I have taken it upon myself to assign work for him to do. Three weeks and they DO NOT HAVE AN ENGLISH TEACHER. That is on the ministry because they have not sorted out the teachers pay, you guys are a joke Then act all surprised when the Private schools outperforms the Government Schools. Give me a break.
